In the essay, “The Paganization of Biblical Studies,” Dr. Peter Jones, Professor of New Testament at Westminster Seminary in Escondido, Calif., identifies liberalism and/or progressivism as a form of neo-Gnostic paganism, or mystical pantheism.

Occult Gnostic pantheism arose among certain Jews during the Babylonian exile and is grounded in ‘Ageless Wisdom Teachings’ from the time of Babylon. Eventually, Gnostics developed pre-Christian variations and then in the heart of Christendom, another version arose – ‘Liberal Christianity.’ Liberal Christianity took shape among medieval mystics such as Meister Eckhart (1260-1327) and in the forms of Renaissance occult science, occult philosophy such as Kabbalah and the Hermetic tradition; and within occult groups such as the Rosicrucian’s and among certain Radical Reformers (i.e., Kaspar von Schwenkfeld) and the ‘death of Christian God’ movement. (1) It took form and quickly became a battering ram against the Bible in 19th century Germany.
Its first real manifestation was at the University in Tubingen where a Christian theologian named Ferdinand Baur (1792-1860) had formed a school of faux-theology for the purpose of raising questions about the Christian faith, a tactic designed to undermine and destroy its status as the fount of truth and moral law. (1) Among areas that came under attack was the person of Jesus Christ, the Genesis account of creation ex nihilo, the fall and nature of sin, the Authority of the Bible, the way of spiritual salvation, apostolic tradition and Church doctrine.
By far the most heretical and destructive incursion into divine truth was the Gnostic assertion of the immanence of God at the expense of His transcendence (separateness from His creation) so that the personal Creator becomes a pantheistic impersonal expression of an evolving cosmic process.... (1)
The intellectual self-production of neo-Gnostics such as Hartford Seminary professor of liturgy worship and spirituality, Miriam Therese Winter, is rapidly filling the spiritual vacuum created by the nihilism of secular pagan materialism. Winter teaches:
“Our Mother who is within us we celebrate your many names. Your wisdom come. Your will be done,,
The owner/author of the PatriotandLiberty essay will not accuse you of blog pimping.
Scientology, Jehovah’s witneses and Mormons take different aspects of gnosticism
Sure a lot of big words there.
I am currently reading Lindsay's "Race Marxism" but, not having finished it yet (I read numerous books at once--not always a good practice in that some are left unfinished), won't comment except to say that it is worth reading.
Here's an interesting snippet from the article at your link...
The theistic Gnostic, often theosophists, turns this upside-down [this being that we must pursue God]. Absolute knowledge is available and hidden from us by those who have ordered the world. God is not the Creator who put order to the world and then called it good; He is a tyrant and the warden of a universal prison locked from within, keeps that which is truly Good for Himself, and by maintaining for us a state of ignorance keeps us enslaved. Knowledge of the higher truth, that the Garden is in fact a prison, sets us free of it, at which point we can reshape the world nearer to our hearts’ desires.Though Gnosticism is hard to define, this statement above clarifies its Satanic heart. Satanists are going for broke in America right now, though they are not (yet) disclosing whom they serve. These Satanists make a compelling argument for their "religion" to the millions of Americans who are either secular or have a confused idea of Christianity. BTW, Christian churches are filled to the brim with people who are there (i.e., in church) for all the wrong reasons and this makes them easy prey for the Satanists who sneak in to fill the pews.Religion and Truth merely have to be exposed as the limiting lies that lead us to see the chaos of our lives as ordered, but in ways beyond our knowledge, and our misery as contentment and even joy. Accordingly, Knowledge of the Absolute Truth, Gnosis, is the way to true freedom. We just have to bite into the fruit, and capital-G Knowledge is ours.
It is surprising how many people in churches are there because it is a kind of caring fraternity that "virtue signals" to Jesus as a titular head of that club. They are NOT there because they have given themselves over to Jesus lock, stock, and barrel.
James Lindsay speaks in a kind of confusing way, but if you can decipher what he says (it ain't easy), he makes a huge amount of sense.
“That which has been is what will be, that which is done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9).
I hope you do not actually think I am referring to the owner/author of the PatriotandLiberty accusing you of that, but by readers (plural). Rather than making FR a servant for blogs by posting a sentence or two and requiring going to the linked page to see if it is worth spending time on, then in consideration of readers and of Free Republic in which you can see 250 articles per page with a 100 word lead (https://freerepublic.com/perl/settings page), and normally with no less than 300 word excerpt (or excerpts of excerpt) for the whole post of the properly attributed and linked article, then in the interest of readers and FR one should take the time to provide the main substance in excerpts. Thus one can see if such is worth taking the time to read the whole article by following the link.
This would not necessarily result in less of the latter, since posting a sentence or two can simply be ignored as not indicating the article of worth reading, versus a 100 word excerpt on the article page or the 300 word excerpt of the post itself (or about 10% as per Fair Use allowance). See Updated FR Excerpt and Link Only or Deny Posting List due to Copyright Complaints for more on this, which begins with "These sites must be excerpted and linked only [300 words or less]:" Some sites only allow a link.
And the fact that (unlike PatriotandLiberty) most blogs and sites are heavily commercialized (up to 500 network requests in Gateway Pundit, vs. 3 for FR) then that is also another reason to provide the substance of them.
Pasting your preview on a word counter page such as https://wordcounter.net/ can enable you to obtain the maximum.
See An exhortation to those who post thread for more. This would help FR to remain overall the best conservative new aggregator, if not without any faults and a few desires features.
Yes, James Lindsay is not “easy reading”.
But he’s a force to be reckoned with in the fight against the sin (crime) of cultural Marxism, wokeism, scientism.
Academics run amok, without significant opposition, birthed that evil. James Lindsay, Helen Pluckrose, and others like them are taking the fight back to the intellectual hothouses from whence the evil sprouted.
Pray for them.
While those are evil, I wouldn’t call them Gnostic.
Gnostic religions are those that say you need to learn certain secrets to rise higher in “esteem”
So, the “Church” of Scientology is definitely a Gnostic type religion (though having nothing related to Christianity). I would say that Mormonism and Jehovah’s witnesses are also Gnostic, actually more “Gnostic”
Whatever. I like what I have read in PatriotAndLiberty, and I’m grateful that it shows up here at FR.
Ecclesiastes 1:9 doesn't include having the internet and world communication in our pocket via smartphones.
But the "new" things that will pop up in the End Times are predicted elsewhere, like Daniel 12:4 ("But you, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased") and MANY of the things spoken about in the Book of Revelation.
Here's another very scary thing that Ecclesiastes 1:9 doesn't hold true for:
Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. (Luke 21:26)
With its Docetism (that Christ's body was not human but either a phantasm or of real but celestial substance, and that therefore his sufferings were only apparent). Any Christ who is not materially what He appears to be in His incarnation falls into that category, and thus the Bible emphasizes the manifest physicality of the incarnated body of Christ in contrast to a christ whose appearance on earth did not correspond to what He appeared to be. Who never appeared on earth as an inanimate object (much less one that did not actually exist as such), though in His glorified physical body He could defy our physics (come thru locked doors yet eat food).
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) (1 John 1:1-2)
Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. (1 John 5:5-6)
And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. (Luke 24:36-39)
And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. (John 20:26-27)
That’s one of the forces Judeo-Christianity is up against.
They all have in common that man can be perfected. They may each define that idea a bit different.
JW’s and Mormons believe that you can work for your salvation.
Church of Scientology believes that the mideochlorians can save save you. (Sarc)
The left believes that man must strive to not leave a mark on earth in order to be saved.
I’m not saying that they are perfectly Gnostic, but they share that one aspect Gnosticism, the imperfection of mankind, working towards salvation and leaving the flesh behind.
