Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Mark 4
A Lamp on a Stand
21 He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand? 22 For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.”
24 “Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more. 25 Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
How Hallowed,
Magnificent,
and Blessed
is Your Most Holy Name!
How Present and True is Your Word,
and How Mighty!
How Glorious,
to Span the Millennia,
To be Unfettered by Time and Space,
To Know The End from the Beginning
and the Beginning from The End!
For it is You, Oh LORD,
Who designed the Galaxies with Your Compass,
And Mapped Out the Vast Reaches of Space
With Your Word and Your Omniscient Imagination!
LORD, remind us ALWAYS to Worship You,
and not Your Creation.
Your creation is there but to proclaim YOUR GLORY.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

A Lamp on a Stand

A common term in today's "Psychobabble" is "Gaslighting". This term, derived from a movie called "Gaslight", is a form of mental or spiritual abuse, where the abuser deliberately lies in a way that makes the abused doubt her own sanity. Although the term is a bit overused now, it is very REAL. Gas used to be used to light people's homes back in the late 19th-early 20th Century. It was considered a marvelous innovation that replaced whale oil for lighting. However, it had a tendency to explode, so light bulbs were considered an even more WONDERFUL Invention.
Mom grew up during the Great Depression, and her childhood was marred by incidents of urban poverty. She told us stories of glasses of water left on a bedside table freezing overnight, metered junction boxes that required coins to keep the electricity going, watering down milk to make it last, and soup made of fish heads. The pain of these years lasted into adulthood.
Even though my Dad worked very hard to support his growing family, Mom had a lingering insecurity about money. We kids didn't understand that her frugality wasn't from being "cheap". It was from an early childhood blighted by poverty.
This insecurity also manifested itself as a kind of snobbery about things that reminded her of those dark days. A clothesline of diapers hanging on a fire escape in Roxbury, blank windows with no curtains or shades (which was the fashion in Cambridge), or a disused coal bin in a house that had converted to oil heat, all triggered a response.
The worst "Reminder of The Great Depression" was the "Naked Light Bulb Hanging From The Ceiling". This totally unacceptable remnant from those days could put the kaibosh on buying a new house, even if everything else about the house was OK. There was something about that Naked Light Bulb that brought back a horrible memory of neediness, and no amount of logic could change that.
I am sure Mom would have hated the new "Industrial Look" in decor, which uses plumber's pipes and Naked Light Bulbs to great effect. There are even fancy "Edison Light Bulbs" which cost over $10.00 each to put in these fixtures. The filament is clearly visible (another no-no) as there is no frosting on the glass. Not only are these fancy new Light Bulbs "Naked", they are also Transparent. Mom would be a nervous wreck if she toured a modern Lamp store. Everything in the the store would look to her as if it were FROM HUNGER.
Lamps in the time of Jesus were usually made of clay. They were shaped like a little vessel with a spout. The oil would burn via a wick that passed through the spout, and opposite the spout was a little handle so it could be carried around . The light came from a little flame, and wasn't very bright. Any kind of "lampshade" would have obscured it completely. On top of that, the light was fragile. A little wind could snuff it out, like a candle. Until the invention of the Light Bulb, this was the way people lit their homes. The fuel may have changed over the centuries, from olive oil, to paraffin, to whale oil, to gas, but the principle was the same.
As Jesus pointed out in His previous Parable, God sends out a measure of Faith to everybody (The Seed). The recipients decide what they are going to do with it. Do I let the wind blow it out? Do I hide it under a shade? Do I make it obnoxious and harsh like a "Naked Light Bulb Hanging From The Ceiling"?
Or do I let it shine, reaching out with a warm, friendly glow, providing light without being ugly about it? It is a Narrow Path indeed.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)
God Bless America.

Psalm 95
1 O come, let us sing to the Lord;
let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
2 Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;
let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
3 For the Lord is a great God,
and a great King above all gods.
4 In his hand are the depths of the earth;
the heights of the mountains are his also.
5 The sea is his, for he made it,
and the dry land, which his hands have formed.
6 O come, let us worship and bow down,
let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!
7 For he is our God,
and we are the people of his pasture,
and the sheep of his hand.
O that today you would listen to his voice!
8 Do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah,
as on the day at Massah in the wilderness,
9 when your ancestors tested me,
and put me to the proof, though they had seen my work.
10 For forty years I loathed that generation
and said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray,
and they do not regard my ways.’
11 Therefore in my anger I swore,
‘They shall not enter my rest.’

Indeed we boomers have had to live with people marked by a spirit of poverty that defies logic because of the experience of living with that demon! This is an oppression on those directly affected and those of us who were affected by a childhood where it was taught and nurtured. It takes diligent study of the Word of God to overcome. Father, may our children be delivered from that curse! Give us the physical strength to get rid of the collections of plastic bags, newspapers, maple syrup containers from McDonalds and plastic plates and forks that were hoarded!
Amen to prayers for the peace of Jerusalem, Israel and our United States of America.
