Pope hits back at critics
Catholic Conclave ^ | 05/02/23 | CG

Pope Francis accuses his critics of exploiting the death of his predecessor Pope Benedict XVI for their own interests. The current pontiff said this to journalists on the plane on Sunday on the return flight of his Africa trip. "I believe that Benedict's death has been instrumentalised," Francis said, speaking of people who were only pursuing their own agenda.

This will go on and continue getting worse until the collection plates go empty. That’s the only way it stops.

I heard that Benedict XVI wrote a book that says a lot of unfavorable things about what is happening in the Church today. He wanted it’s publication held up until he died. The book is in German and who knows when it will be translated into English. Does anyone know the title of the book and where it can be obtained? The original German version is fine - it might not be translated ever for all I know.

Who could that be?

The ONLY thing I’ve heard from him that I liked is that sermons should be 8-10 minutes long!!

“The ONLY thing I’ve heard from him that I liked is that sermons should be 8-10 minutes long!!”

It’s a short attention-span world now. I’m told by local Catholics that all the priests here (6 Catholic churches) are from third world countries (mostly African) and no one can understand most of what they say anyway.

My experience of narcissistic gaslighters is that they accuse others of doing exactly what they themselves are doing.

They all go on too long. As for language, we have a lot of Indian priests in FLorida…and some of them are completely unintelligible. The Africans aren’t great, depending on what part of Africa they come from and their educational level, but the Indians are the champions.

That said, they seem devout and I think they’re probably good priests. But intelligibility is an issue. We have one who has to be accompanied by an American deacon who preaches in his stead (too long, of course).

Haha! Church parking lot across the street was quite full today. Don’t know how long the sermon was, but they seem to vary, judging by when everyone leaves. There is one elderly lady who is the “altar girl”, no children go to church, so they have no kids to serve Mass. The parishioners are a mix of 80+ and some of their 50-60 year-old children who drive the old folks to church. It’s technically a Mission, lost too many people to qualify as a church.

It will probably be gone within 10-15 years. The Church is going gay because the majority of the hierarchy is gay. Looks like a dead end to me, I left years ago when they kept covering up the sexual predation of minors problem decades after it was first exposed. They are still covering it up.

Traditional Latin Masses typically have large families with many children in attendence. And no practicing homos. And no females at the altar.

Novus ordo Mass demographics depend on the location. Where I live, the new Masses have plenty of children as well and religious education classes are full.

This will go on and continue getting worse until the collection plates go empty.

That doesn't stop it. There is a disconnect between church donations and policy. If you have a shrinking congregation, past legacy donations can keep fewer and fewer people going for a LONG time. The Episcopalian Church in the U.S. and the Christian Scientists have shrunken, but have plenty of money.

Thanks! It says the book is in Italian - I guess I will have to wait for a translation. I hope this book finds its way around the world without it being censored.
