Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 26

Jesus Anointed at Bethany

6 While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of Simon the Leper, 7 a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table.

8 When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. “Why this waste?” they asked. 9 “This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor.”

10 Aware of this, Jesus said to them, “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 11 The poor you will always have with you,[a] but you will not always have me. 12 When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. 13 Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Almighty and Eternal God,

How Excellent is Your Name Over All The Earth!

You Alone Are Worthy of Praise,

For Your Alone Are Holy,

You Alone Are God,

You Alone Are The Most High!

Omnipotent,

Omniscient,

and Omnipresent,

You See The End From The Beginning

And The Beginning From The End.

We Thank You For Your Precious and Holy Word,

Which Gives Us Daily Insight Into Your Eternal Mind,

Your Righteousness,

and Your Love For Us.

Abba, Father! How Wonderful You Are!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

Some Stories about Precious Things:

1. A Piece of History: I just finished reading a book by Amy Tan called "The Bonesetter's Daughter". It was a long story, but there was a scene where the protagonist was waiting in Hong Kong for a Visa to the United States. All her money had run out and she was tempted to sell a family heirloom to get the money for her fare. She went to three different antique dealers. The first one offered so little that it was an insult. The second one offered a bit more, but it still wasn't enough. The third one accused her of being a thief, because the item was so precious that she could not have possible obtained it legally. She fled that one, clutching the heirloom (a little piece of bone), and rethinking whether she would sell it or not. Then, the Visa came through, and she HAD to, so she went back to the second dealer and was able to buy her fare to "The Promised Land". What seemed like a simple story about a Refugee from Communist China was complicated by the inference that the family heirloom was a fragment of "Peking Man", the prehistoric fossils of Early Man that were lost forever in WW2.

2. The Ring: When Mom passed away, she gave me a ring that had been her mother's. It was heavy gold and shaped like a snake, with little gems for eyes. As gold goes up and down in price, it's value fluctuates, but it's worth more than anything to me because it was my Grandmother's. I keep it in a safe because it is too small for any of my fat fingers. I can't imagine ever selling it, but the Ring itself has sat nights in a pawn shop many times, and got my grandparents' family through the Great Depression. If they hadn't survived, I wouldn't be here today.

3. The Gifts of the Magi: The original gifts of the Magi were three: Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh. This is why we often assume that there were Three Wise Men, and always depict them that way. The Gold symbolized Kingship, the Frankincense was something only given to God, and then there was the Myrrh. What was that all about? Myrrh was a precious substance used in funerary rites to anoint the DEAD. What kind of a Christmas Gift was THAT? In retrospect, we know that Messiah had to die to take on the sins of the world. That's where the Myrrh came in.

Now families didn't have a supply of Myrrh or other anointing oils just lying around the house waiting for someone to die. It was extremely expensive. If, indeed, one was able to obtain it in anticipation of the inevitable, it was kept in a safe place, in an airtight jar, not 'advertised".

There are several stories about women anointing Jesus. One of the more famous ones is the story of the sinful woman who washed Jesus' feet with her tears and dried them with her long hair. That story is so dramatic that it is the subject of nearly all the artwork I could find. Today's story isn't that one. It is about a woman in Bethany who either broke into her own stash of Anointing Oil (maybe meant for her own funeral), and poured it over Jesus's head. This was the head that was going to be crowned with thorns less than a week later. She knew something that even the Apostles were in denial about.

Judas, who was NOT a "charitable" person, blusters with indignation.

"What a WASTE! This oil should have been sold and the money given to the POOR!"

How many times do we hear that argument even to this day?

Whether it's the Treasures of the Vatican Library, the restoration of a Magnificent Medieval Cathedral, an extravagant Christmas Pageant, or even a renovation of an Inner-City Church, there will ALWAYS be someone who objects. Objection is OK, but to use the Virtue Signaling excuse of "The POOR" invalidates the argument. If Judas was so concerned about "The POOR", why wasn't HE out there doing something about it? After all, he was in control of the money.

Beware of people who insist on telling YOU what you should be doing if that person is not doing it himself.

And like the Woman of Bethany, remember that "giving" something that costs us nothing isn't "giving" at all.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Psalm 140

To the leader. A Psalm of David.

1 Deliver me, O Lord, from evildoers;
protect me from those who are violent,
2 who plan evil things in their minds
and stir up wars continually.
3 They make their tongue sharp as a snake’s,
and under their lips is the venom of vipers.
Selah

4 Guard me, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked;
protect me from the violent
who have planned my downfall.
5 The arrogant have hidden a trap for me,
and with cords they have spread a net;*
along the road they have set snares for me.
Selah

6 I say to the Lord, ‘You are my God;
give ear, O Lord, to the voice of my supplications.’
7 O Lord, my Lord, my strong deliverer,
you have covered my head in the day of battle.
8 Do not grant, O Lord, the desires of the wicked;
do not further their evil plot.*
Selah

9 Those who surround me lift up their heads;*
let the mischief of their lips overwhelm them!
10 Let burning coals fall on them!
Let them be flung into pits, no more to rise!
11 Do not let the slanderer be established in the land;
let evil speedily hunt down the violent!

12 I know that the Lord maintains the cause of the needy,
and executes justice for the poor.
13 Surely the righteous shall give thanks to your name;
the upright shall live in your presence.
