Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 22

Marriage at the Resurrection

23 That same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question. 24 “Teacher,” they said, “Moses told us that if a man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up offspring for him. 25 Now there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died, and since he had no children, he left his wife to his brother. 26 The same thing happened to the second and third brother, right on down to the seventh. 27 Finally, the woman died. 28 Now then, at the resurrection, whose wife will she be of the seven, since all of them were married to her?”

29 Jesus replied, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. 30 At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. 31 But about the resurrection of the dead—have you not read what God said to you, 32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’[b]? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.”

33 When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at his teaching.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Blessed Are You,

Oh LORD,

Our God,

King of the Universe,

Ancient of Days,

Our Rock and Our Redeemer!

You Alone Are Worthy of Praise,

For You Alone Are Worthy,

 You Alone Are Holy,

You Alone Are Righteous and Just,

And You Alone Are The One True God of The Universe.

How Wonderful Are Your Precepts,

How Precious Is Your WORD,

How Eternal and Sure Are Your Promises!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

Amen !!! <><

Psalm 137

1 By the rivers of Babylon—
there we sat down and there we wept
when we remembered Zion.
2 On the willows* there
we hung up our harps.
3 For there our captors
asked us for songs,
and our tormentors asked for mirth, saying,
‘Sing us one of the songs of Zion!’

4 How could we sing the Lord’s song
in a foreign land?
5 If I forget you, O Jerusalem,
let my right hand wither!
6 Let my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth,
if I do not remember you,
if I do not set Jerusalem
above my highest joy.

7 Remember, O Lord, against the Edomites
the day of Jerusalem’s fall,
how they said, ‘Tear it down! Tear it down!
Down to its foundations!’
8 O daughter Babylon, you devastator!*
Happy shall they be who pay you back
what you have done to us!
9 Happy shall they be who take your little ones
and dash them against the rock!

In Norse Folklore, a "Troll" was mythical creature who lived in caves and under bridges. They were considered ugly and primitive, yet clever, and often possessed magical powers. Their only contact with humans was for trickery and deceit, however, they sometimes possessed knowledge that was necessary to gain on a Sacred Quest. The Troll has come down to us through Fairy Tales and Legends, and is brilliantly satirized in the movie "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". In that goofy movie, the Knights encounter a Troll in their Quest. In order for them to pass over a bridge they have to answer three absurd questions, and, of course, they fail. In this culmination of two millennia of Troll Stories, the instantly recognizable Troll and his victims have become what is now called a "Meme". Everybody knows what a Troll is, just by looking at him.

In 1959, a new toy emerged and became the rage in the early 60's. This was a little rubber doll with elf-like features, and long hair that was combed straight up. These were called "Troll Dolls". Originating in Scandinavia, these crazy little dolls became a huge fad. While folklore had never mentioned the long hair, the shape of the body of the doll and facial features indicated that it was a Troll. There was no mistaking it.

A Troll that is not as easy to recognize right away is the "Internet Troll". This is someone who deliberately asks a controversial question in order to start an online flame war between opposing sides of an issue. Then, the "Troll" sits back and enjoys watching the members of a site tear each other apart. Usually, a Troll lurks for the rest of the conversation, without joining in. He gets his satisfaction from watching others duke it out.

This kind of "Troll" is not new. There was always the Wise Guy who would drop a bomb-question into a classroom or discussion group, and act the same way. It seems to me that it is a perverse kind of pleasure that is derived from watching others get into a heated argument over a hypothetical. From our own many experiences both online and in real life, I think we can all recognize a Troll...but...sometimes a Troll can get you going for a little while before you realize it.

In yesterday's Story about the Imperial Tax, the Pharisees and Herodians were definitely attempting to "troll" Jesus. They knew that if Jesus answered either way, about paying the Tax or not, that there would be an argument. Jesus recognized their trolling instantly and answered in such a way that the entire argument was moot.

Today's story is similar. Just as the Pharisees and Herodians disagreed about political matters, the Pharisees and Sadducees disagreed on spiritual matters. Matthew conveniently explains that in the first sentence. The Pharisees believed in the Afterlife, and the Sadducees believed in just the "here and now". So the question on a point of the Law was not only absurd to begin with (how many widows do you know of who outlives seven brothers?), but the questioners disagreed upon the Resurrection of the Dead. How was it even a valid question? It was a case of "Trolling", and Jesus saw right through it. His answer, though, was to teach the Trolls an important principle. By asking this loaded question, the Trolls gave Jesus an opportunity to bring up Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, who, Jesus taught, were still alive in the Afterlife. He taught that the Sovereign God was the God of the Living, not the Dead. He didn't even address the silliness of the very busy widow. He knew that the widow was not the point of their question, as our resurrected bodies will not be interested in marriage or sex. (or gender either!) In today's society that's ALL people seem to want to talk about. Maybe they are just dropping bomb-questions to see how us "traditional" people will react.

That sounds a lot like "Trolling" to me.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

"Jesus and the Saducees"
James Tissot

_ HE same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him,

Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first,
when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:

Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.

And last of all the woman died also.

Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.

Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

31 But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,

I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at his doctrine.

Good point about trolls! So easy to see them on the internet as they snipe, hiding behind the keyboard in anonymity.
