Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 13
The Parable of the Weeds Explained
36 Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”
37 He answered, “The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the people of the kingdom. The weeds are the people of the evil one, 39 and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.
40 “As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42 They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears, let them hear.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Dear Father in Heaven,
How Blessed is Your Name!
You Alone Are Worthy of Praise and Worship,
For You Alone Are The One True God.
Thank You For being Our Peace,
Thank You For Delivering us from all fear.
Thank You For Filling Our Hearts and Minds
With Your Comfort And Assurance.
Even though We May Feel Very Small,
And the whole weight of society seems to militate against us.
Thank You for using the Little Things to bring down the huge obstacles.
Thank You for using the foolish things to confound the "wise".
In times like these, it is easy to feel alone,
The most insignificant member of a powerless group,
And facing oppression and overwhelming odds on all sides.
Thank You for being Our Peace.
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

Perhaps it was because George Harrison had gotten interested in Transcendental Meditation that I went through a period of seeking through other religious traditions, way back in the late 60's. Somebody gave me a book of Zen Koans (Parables), which I eagerly dove into, hoping to unlock the Secrets of the Universe. I read story after story in the little book, each one leaving me less satisfied than the one before it. It didn't seem to be unlocking anything at all. The one that really caused me to close the book forever was a little story called"The Sound of One Hand Clapping"
The story actually made me angry. In it, a Youth seeking enlightenment goes to a famous teacher. The Youth is sincerely seeking Truth. The Teacher gives him a riddle, and sends him out to solve it. Of course, every answer he comes up with is rejected. Finally, the Youth comes up with the answer. The "sound of one hand clapping" is Silence.
"Big Deal!" I grumbled. "That would have been my FIRST response." Grrrr...so much for the Wisdom of the East.
Looking back, and reading the Koan again, I have a better idea of what was going on between the Teacher and the Youth. But it still doesn't satisfy me. When a student of mine ask me a question, I answer it to the best of my ability. If I don't know the answer, I suggest we explore it together to come up with the solution. Was the Teacher in the Zen Koan trying to make the Youth think for himself? Who knows. I just didn't like it back then, and now, I just see it as a parable without a satisfactory ending.
Anyone who has been reading this thread for any length of time knows that I love to tell stories and then relate them back to the Scripture Reading for the Day. Using stories, both true memories and allegorical parables, is a wonderful way to get a point across. But the important thing is to tie up all the loose ends.
All the Parables in Matthew 12 and 13 are related. They are often grouped together by scholars and called "The Kingdom Parables", because Jesus opened them with a simile:
"The Kingdom of heaven is like a..."
Right away, we know that He is talking about this world and the next, and God's Sovereignty over it. We here about the Word of God being sown (The Parable of the Sower), the Evil One sabotaging the Word of God (The Wheat and the Tares), the spread of the Word, (or to some, the spread of evil) in the Parables of the Mustard Seed and the Yeast. However, unlike the Teacher in the Zen Koan, Jesus does not send His Disciples away, scratching their heads and wondering what the heck He was talking about. He EXPLAINS the Parables for us. A few stories may go by, but, within the same discourse, Jesus explains the meaning of His stories.
That's the kind of Teacher I want.
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

Psalm 50
A Psalm of Asaph.
1 The mighty one, God the Lord,
speaks and summons the earth
from the rising of the sun to its setting.
2 Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty,
God shines forth.
3 Our God comes and does not keep silence,
before him is a devouring fire,
and a mighty tempest all around him.
4 He calls to the heavens above
and to the earth, that he may judge his people:
5 ‘Gather to me my faithful ones,
who made a covenant with me by sacrifice!’
6 The heavens declare his righteousness,
for God himself is judge.
Selah
7 ‘Hear, O my people, and I will speak,
O Israel, I will testify against you.
I am God, your God.
8 Not for your sacrifices do I rebuke you;
your burnt-offerings are continually before me.
9 I will not accept a bull from your house,
or goats from your folds.
10 For every wild animal of the forest is mine,
the cattle on a thousand hills.
11 I know all the birds of the air,*
and all that moves in the field is mine.
12 ‘If I were hungry, I would not tell you,
for the world and all that is in it is mine.
13 Do I eat the flesh of bulls,
or drink the blood of goats?
14 Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving,*
and pay your vows to the Most High.
15 Call on me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.’
16 But to the wicked God says:
‘What right have you to recite my statutes,
or take my covenant on your lips?
17 For you hate discipline,
and you cast my words behind you.
18 You make friends with a thief when you see one,
and you keep company with adulterers.
19 ‘You give your mouth free rein for evil,
and your tongue frames deceit.
20 You sit and speak against your kin;
you slander your own mother’s child.
21 These things you have done and I have been silent;
you thought that I was one just like yourself.
But now I rebuke you, and lay the charge before you.
22 ‘Mark this, then, you who forget God,
or I will tear you apart, and there will be no one to deliver.
23 Those who bring thanksgiving as their sacrifice honour me;
to those who go the right way*
I will show the salvation of God.’

Be encouraged:
Isaiah 61: 8; 11
“For I the LORD love judgment, I hate robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them” KJV.
11 “For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.
