Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 4
Jesus Begins to Preach
12 When Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he withdrew to Galilee. 13 Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum, which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali— 14 to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah:
15 “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,
the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles—
16 the people living in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of the shadow of death
a light has dawned.”[f]
17 From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh Lord,
Our God,
My Strength and My Song,
You are My Rock
You Are My Redeemer
Let My Song Praise Your Saving Power!
You, amid the raging foes,
Are My Sheltering Tower.
You Alone are the Rock of My Strength,
My Anchor, and My Refuge!
Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.
Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.
This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.
God Bless America.

In 1984, I visited Capernaum. At the time it was a very "raw" archaeological site, with no "comfort facilities", and far from any centers of commerce. That was unfortunate, because I really needed a rest room and had to content myself with a shack in a field that was used by the shepherds in the area. (NOT NICE!) My distress, however, was compensated by the amazing finds in that project.
First of all, there were the remains of a 1st Century Synagogue. Although the architecture is Hellenistic, there are several carvings in the stone work (such as The Ark of the Covenant and the Star of David) that validate that this was not a Greek Temple, but a local synagogue for local Jews. And, since Matthew tells us that Jesus began His Ministry right in this very town, Jesus probably stood on the very platform of that Greek-looking building.
Another discovery was a set of concentric stone foundations, nested within each other in an expanding octagon of walls. It had the appearance of a tiny dwelling, that kept being enlarged to accommodate more people until it became a meeting hall. The guide explained that it was theorized to be St. Peter's house, starting out as a fisherman's hut and expanding into a primitive church. Looking at it, I could imagine that happening, as local Believers chose that spot to build their church to honor their local Apostle.
Thirty years later, I looked up Capernaum on satellite images. Lo and behold, there was now a shelter built over the dig and what looks like a Visitor's Center with real Rest Rooms. It would seem that Israel has discovered what a treasure they have in that little corner of the Holy Land.
Once again, Matthew quotes the Prophet Isaiah to validate his account. His quote is from the Septuagint, which goes with the Greek architecture of the Capernaum Synagogue. Everything matches up and affirms his witness.
I just love it when Archaeologists dig things up that show that the Bible has been right all along.

Psalm 48
A Song. A Psalm of the Korahites.
1 Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised
in the city of our God.
His holy mountain, 2beautiful in elevation,
is the joy of all the earth,
Mount Zion, in the far north,
the city of the great King.
3 Within its citadels God
has shown himself a sure defence.
4 Then the kings assembled,
they came on together.
5 As soon as they saw it, they were astounded;
they were in panic, they took to flight;
6 trembling took hold of them there,
pains as of a woman in labour,
7 as when an east wind shatters
the ships of Tarshish.
8 As we have heard, so have we seen
in the city of the Lord of hosts,
in the city of our God,
which God establishes for ever.
Selah
9 We ponder your steadfast love, O God,
in the midst of your temple.
10 Your name, O God, like your praise,
reaches to the ends of the earth.
Your right hand is filled with victory.
11 Let Mount Zion be glad,
let the towns* of Judah rejoice
because of your judgements.
12 Walk about Zion, go all around it,
count its towers,
13 consider well its ramparts;
go through its citadels,
that you may tell the next generation
14 that this is God,
our God for ever and ever.
He will be our guide for ever.
