Interesting that we haven’t heard a word since the lightning strike occurred.

“Across the street” is a clear miss. On the front porch I could understand just as a warning, if nothing else.

Gawd didn’t do this.

Unless one of them was named Biden (or Brandon) I’d say he missed.

I read a bizarro article where this was attributed to “climate change”. WTF??

and tried to wait it out under some trees

All well-informed people know that being under a tree is the worse place to be. However, there are plenty of places to get out of the weather less than a block away. In fact, there is a bank steps away from the park, that you see on the back of the 10 dollar bill. 🙂

From the looks of the storm I saw on the video, that storm had been going on for sometime. At least that is what I deduced from the short clip.

If you went through that storm ( as I did) you might recognize that the sudden onset and extreme severity of the lightning would have made walking a block to shelter seem very dangerous esp to elderly people

It rained then hailed so hard I expected a tornado, but never came

Sometimes you just make the wrong choices
Or it was just your time

Like I said, there is the bank just steps away from Lafayette Park, as I’m sure you are well aware of. I used to work at Interstate Federal Savings and Loan Association located @ 15th & N Y Ave NW D.C. 2 blocks east of the White House, next to the Treasury Bldg.

Not Devine anger. If it was Devine anger, the choice of targets would be different.

He missed. Needs more target practice.

Depends on who the lightning struck whether it was God’s judgment or not.

If it had been a major player democrat politician, I would lean more heavily in that direction.

Yeah it’s tragic. Hope everyone here who doesn’t know better, that most people who die from lightening strikes die because they sought shelter under a tree. Happens a lot to golfers because that is what is handy. But it’s the worse place to seek shelter. It goes through the tree and strikes things around the tree as it exits the tree.

There’s an open courtyard in a building on Madison Place, the side road just to the left of Lafayette Square (when facing the White House). In fact, there is — or used to be — there a replica of the fabulous “Grief” statue by Saint Gaudens.

This is a rare event, but one would hope that security on the grounds would advise people not to hide from lightening under a tree henceforth.

Btw, I’ve seen lightning hit the Wash Monument. Very cool.

I’ll bet that was. Ever walked up it? I did when I was much younger, and it still tired me out. 🙂

Oh, Hell yeah.

I have been hit by lightning 3 times, never under a tree. Sometimes you are just caught and you get zapped.

How many times were these folks just fine sheltering under a tree in their 80+ year lifetime?

When it is your time, it is your time.

Did it as a kid, as well. In fact, it’s been so long that I’ve been up the Monument, I don’t think I’ve ever gone up in the elevator.

My strongest recollection of the climb up the stairs is the old graffiti — an American and Roman obsession, it would seem.

I saw the lightning strike from the golf course at Haines Point.

LOL, we used to skip school, and travel down in our school bus, with the young school bus driver driving, to play a round of golf at Haines Point, and also see The Awakening sculpture:

One day, I was sitting on the bus, with my golf clubs, when the Vice Principal came by and said, how was your round today Bob. I said, terrible as usual, but fun nonetheless.

His reply was; perhaps your golf skills is a sign that you had better quit playing and attend school. I took the not to subtle hint. 😋

I was too busy trying to run up the stairs, after my dad posed the challenge, to notice what was upon the walls I guess. 🙂
