A new documentary is set to expose the horrific sexual and physical abuse that took place inside an extremist Mormon cult run by a pedophile who had 78 wives and raped multiple underage girls.
Warren Jeffs, now 66 - who has served as the president of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS) since 2002 - had more than 70 wives, 24 of whom were underage children, when he was arrested in 2008.
Now, a new Netflix documentary, Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey, will lift a lid on the heinous crimes that Jeffs - who is reportedly still running the cult from behind bars - committed while serving as the self-appointed leader of the fundamentalist arm of the church.
FLDS was created in the early 20th century by a group of Mormons who got ostracized from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because they refused to give up polygamy - the act of marrying multiple women.
Polygamy was renounced from the Mormon religion in 1904, when the then-president of the church said it would no longer be allowed in a declaration known as the Second Manifesto.
However, some members of the community didn't want to stop the practice since they believed that 'the more wives and children you have, the higher in Heaven you'll be,' according to the documentary, which premieres on the streaming site on Wednesday.
A trailer for the doc sheds some light on the heinous abuse that Jeffs' victims suffered, with one survivor recalling in the clip how she was forced to marry an adult man when she was just 14 years old.

Eye In The Sky and Magic Mormon Underwear.
61 And again, as pertaining to the law of the priesthood—if any man espouse a virgin, and desire to espouse aanother, and the first give her consent, and if he espouse the second, and they are virgins, and have vowed to no other man, then is he justified; he cannot commit adultery for they are given unto him; for he cannot commit adultery with that that belongeth unto him and to no one else.
62 And if he have aten virgins given unto him by this law, he cannot commit adultery, for they belong to him, and they are given unto him; therefore is he justified.
Seems pretty clear to me.
Please note that I don't support this at all, but LDS "Scriptures" are very clear on the subject.
Read Under the Banner of Heaven by Jon Krakauer. FDLS is sick.
those that consider LDS just another sect of the umbrella term ‘christianity’, will look upon this as another reason to say ‘no thanks’ to any sort of preaching.
I do not blame them one bit. In this time, where folks judge not the person, but their association, examples like this bunch really do great examples of negative advertising.
This is why it’s pretty clear that some 12 year old kid having hallucinations about golden plates being handed to him is not a basis for religion.
Stoke the fires of Hell - someone’s coming soon!!
Mormonism is only under the umbrella of christian if christian has no meaning.
It’s a different religion I’d say more like Islam. I don’t put Mohammad under the umbrella of christian either.
Islam says that God is so utterly transcendant that the only relationship you can have with him is one of a slave to his master. Mormonism says that God is so utterly un-transcendant that you can become a god just like him someday, if you follow the rules.
Both extremes are absolutely wrong, of course.
One of my professors in Bible college said that Mormonism follows the same model as Islam. I thought about it, and that is a very true statement. Only the terms and names change: but it is the same play book.
Mormons are a cult period.
That’s an interesting observation. I guess I was seeing those two religions as generally claiming that Jesus isn’t who he said he was and relegating him to underling status. In Islam Jesus is a prophet and in Mormonism , he’s the brother of Satan.
I’ve read that Smith used the Koran as a guide. Don’t know if that’s true but Smith was in constant trouble with the law. Islam also gives it’s believers license to disregard law so I thought the idea was plausible.
There used to be a fire breathing contingent of Mormons on this site that would kick ass and take names if you even dared to question the sanity of their odd little cult. Apparently they either left on their own, or, hopefully, JR kicked them out for good.
oh the door you opened!
those folks I mentioned.
better sit down .... those same folks that put LDS under ‘christianity’, put ‘judaism’, ‘christianity’, and mohammedanism under the umbrella of .....
‘abrahamic faith’!
i think you might noodle that one out, without any help from me.
There’s a better case to be made that there’s a category containing three Abrahamic faiths then that Mormonism can be correctly called Christian.
I know some people like to engage in category error. Fallacious arguments are the vehicle of liberal slime machines.
what the heck are liberal slime machines?
i’ve been talking people, not machines!
i’ve been talking about the kind of folks that evangelicals dream about one-handed at night....
the Heathen, the Asatru, you know who i mean, right?
in more terms, not the Buddhists , the Taoists, the Shinto.
so again, what liberal machine are you talking about?
