Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Revelation 11

The Seventh Trumpet

15 The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said:

“The kingdom of the world has become
    the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah,
    and he will reign for ever and ever.”

16 And the twenty-four elders, who were seated on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshiped God, 17 saying:

“We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty,
    the One who is and who was,
because you have taken your great power
    and have begun to reign.
18  The nations were angry,
    and your wrath has come.
The time has come for judging the dead,
    and for rewarding your servants the prophets
and your people who revere your name,
    both great and small—
and for destroying those who destroy the earth.”

19 Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and within his temple was seen the ark of his covenant. And there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake and a severe hailstorm.

Our Father Who Art in Heaven,
Hallowed Be Your Name!

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,

To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

Today is a recent, made-up, alleged holiday called "Earth Day". It was founded by a murdering terrorist whose girlfriend's mummified body was found in the closet of his apartment over 50 years ago. (just sayin'). Nevertheless, Earth Day is marked on calendars, celebrated in public schools, and unabashedly promoted by the media. Earth Day would seem to be a permanent installation in our culture.

On the surface, it seems like a decent thing to celebrate. Noboby actually LIKES polluted water, poison soil, dead oceans, or smog. Earth is the only planet we have, and from Genesis onward, Our Creator commands us to be Good Stewards of His Creation. God's Creation is magnificent, and I never cease to be awestruck by it!

However, from the most primitive times to this very day, we humans have a way of taking that awe and turning it into the worship of Creation rather than The Creator. Gods and goddesses of the Sun, Moon, and Earth, the Sky, the Underworld, the Seasons, The Day, the Night, Fertility, the Harvest, Love, Death, Handicrafts, Hunting, Farming, and every conceivable human emotion, abound in the Pagan Pantheon. Chief of these in many cultures is Mother Earth, whom "Science" has named after the Ancient Greek Goddess Gaia. I have put "Science" in quotes, as it has become an entity, unlike "science" (lower-case "s") which is just a genre that includes medicine, mathematics, music,theory, astrophysics, quantum mechanics and so on. "Science" with an uppercase "S" has become a god in and of itself!

As Believers in the Creator, The One True God, we are called to care for the Earth. Waste, pollution, the poisoning of our water and air, and filth are forbidden in God's Economy. From Genesis onward, God's People are admonished to tend to the Earth, but to worship God ONLY. Even in Abraham's time, the "bad guys" stopped up wells, poisoned water, and ravaged the land even as they worshipped fat, ugly fertility goddesses with human sacrifices and other disgusting practices.

But, is there really much difference these days? Promoters of "Earth Day" are often the same people who promote Abortion, Child Trafficking, Sexual Immoralty, and, last but not least, Communism. It is they who are "Destroying the Earth" by making it uninhabitable by humans.

And so, we have this Prayer that is said by the Angels at the Seventh Trumpet:

“We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty,
the One who is and who was,
because you have taken your great power
and have begun to reign.
18 The nations were angry, and your wrath has come.
The time has come for judging the dead,
and for rewarding your servants the prophets
and your people who revere your name,
both great and small—
and for destroying those who destroy the earth.”

And so, as the World celebrates Earth Day by worshipping itself, we can use it as an inspiration to gaze with awe and worship to The One Who Made It All, The One True God, Our Father and Creator.

You may have noticed another Prayer at the beginning of Today's Chapter. It is the Prayer that was used for The Hallelujah Chorus in Handel's Messiah. The Word of God abides forever!
