There’s nothing funnier than a “guilty, white liberal,” and I don’t mean a “laugh with” kind of funny, more of a “laugh at” level of humor.
A suburban Chicago church has decided to give up something very peculiar and very hate-filled for Lent — “any music that is associated with white people,” according to Fox News.
The First United Church of Oak Park initially sent out a statement on their mission for Lent, which is to focus the music used in the place of worship throughout the time period on pretty much any music that wasn’t written by white people.
“In our worship services throughout Lent, we will not be using any music or liturgy written or composed by white people,”the statement reportedly read. "Our music will be drawn from the African American spirituals tradition, from South African freedom songs, from Native American traditions, and many, many more.”
That's all well and good. Nothing against those types of songs and traditions, but what does any of that music that the church wants to use have to do with the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ?
The first bit of irony involved with this move is what was said in another portion of the statement.
“For Lent, it is our prayer that in our spiritual disciplines we may grow as Christians, united in the body of Christ with people of all ages, nations, races, and origins,” the statement hypocritically continued.

Fox News also reported, "The church is also reportedly promoting reflections that it calls "evotionals" which have supported the idea of 'fasting from whiteness.'"
So this church wants Christians to be “united in the body of Christ with people of all ages, nations, races, and origins”…unless the music used in a service was written by white people. But that’s totally not racist at all.
The Presbyterian church issued a follow-up statement on Wednesday in response to pushback against their racist Lent edict.
Our Lenten theme has spurred considerable discussion, with some people questioning the message. In practice with the Lenten spiritual discipline of fasting, our intent was to lay aside our usual frames of reference and open ourselves to hearing the Gospel message through the voices of Black People, Indigenous People, and People of Color. Our worship services in Lent have been diverse and beautiful. We pray that God oils the hinges of our hearts’ doors that they might swing open gently to receive the good news of Christ’s resurrection, which we all await at the culmination of Lent.
Oh, okay. So they’ve just made this move in order to “open ourselves to hearing the Gospel message through the voices of Black People, Indigenous People, and People of Color,” because tolerance, right?
I don’t understand why they can’t use all music written by all people.
I might’ve buried the largest example of irony in this story, but sometimes you have to save the best for last.
The head pastor…of The First United Church of Oak Park…is white. Of course, neither Pastor John Edgerton or the church office responded to Fox News Digital for comment.
Another “guilty, white liberal,” who happens to run a place of worship, telling his congregation to exclude the music of a specific group of people because of their skin color.
Classic.
On Ash Wednesday did he go a little overboard with the ashes? Did he go full blackface?
Every thing.. each individual animal, vegetable and mineral prefers the company of its own kind. Every human knows this yet civilization is being sacrificed to pretend otherwise. Weird.
It’s easier than giving up cheeseburgers. I’m giving up cognac. And infidelity with Kate Upton. I think I will make it this time!
I’ll pray that he grows up and stops being a dumbass.
I checked out their website and youtube page where they post their services, and the choir is all-white except for one black. All of the laity who did the readings, etc.. were white. I couldn’t see the congregation, but I’m guessing that sample I did see is pretty much representative of the rest of them. Of course, if you’re going to “give up” your whiteness, you need mostly white people. Any POC’s would would be mere spectators of the shriving, and miss out on the full spiritual experience of Lent at First United.
On the other hand, that’s some serious, serious cultural appropriation going on there.
Your piety has inspired me to give up all

But only for Lent.
Would someone explain what “fasting from whiteness” is?
I heard a conservative black woman talking about it, but I got lost very fast.
Oak Park. Name stuck a bell. Same as Morton Grove who, decades ago banned the ownership of handguns. Definitely Liberal.
I don’t know if it counts as fasting from Whiteness, but they got what they wanted — publicity.

No milk, cottage cheese, saltines, salt, sugar, ....
It is time for a little expiriment....let’s exclude all whites from taxes, employing anyone, producing any products, serving in the military, providing any services, from participation in schools, colleges and sports. Exclude WHITEY from law enforcement, government positions, medical fields, construction, supply chains, energy production, etc. etc. for a period of 1 year. Then, after this year long trial, let’s do the same but exclude, all minority groups, ie. blacks, Hispanics, gays, trans, blm, etc. for one year from these things. Then let’s observe the results of our little test....MY BET is that a year without WHITEY will result in the total destruction and anarchy of all of our nation.....the year without the minorities.....better than it has ever been, less crime, less turmoil, and no one would miss them! If you think I am racist, I don’t really care, just a scientific expiriment...if anyone doesn’t like the results...too bad, that’s science for you.
Works for me. It would be a major disaster, but that’s pretty much what the LefTards want America to be. Let them stew in it. Jerks.
