Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Revelation 2

To the Church in Thyatira

18 “To the angel of the church in Thyatira write:

These are the words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze. 19 I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first.

20 Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. 21 I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. 22 So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways. 23 I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.

24 Now I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets, ‘I will not impose any other burden on you, 25 except to hold on to what you have until I come.’

26 To the one who is victorious and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations— 27 that one ‘will rule them with an iron scepter and will dash them to pieces like pottery’[b]—just as I have received authority from my Father. 28 I will also give that one the morning star. 29 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD, Our One and Only God!
How Excellent is Your Most Holy Name!
How Wonderful,
How Holy,
How Righteous
and How Just and True You Are!
For You Alone Are Worthy Of Praise and Worship,
And You Alone Transcend Time and Space,
For You Alone Are The Creator of All That Is!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

This is the Fourth Letter in a series of Seven. To those who interpret everything as symbolic, it could be pictured as the center candle in a menorah, or some other varient of being in the middle of the "seven". Oddly enough, Thyatira is located halfway between Pergamum and Sardis, so it even appears "In the Middle" on a Biblical Map. The Letter to Thyatira is the longest of the Seven Letters and so, sticks out in the center. Hence, the menorah symbolism.

To the Historicist , the Thyatira Church represents the longest period in Church History, appropriately called "The Middle Ages". Both Catholic and Reformation scholars have expressed this viewpoint, so it is not biased either way.

To the Futurist, it points to the Mid-Tribulation point of three and a half years, in the Middle of the Seven Years of Woe.

Whatever theory they hold, most scholars agree that the Church in Thyatira pictures a thriving church that has allowed corruption to ruin it.

The corruption is described as a woman named "Jezebel". The name is synonomous with sexual immorality and occult practices. Since no Jewish person would give their daughter the name "Jezebel", I imagine that the name as used in Revelation is symbolic.

The original Jezebel was the evil wife of King Ahab, who was just as bad as she was. (1 Kings 21:25-26). For centuries after their ignominious deaths, Ahab and Jezebel set the standard for wickedness. If a man was evil, he was compared to Ahab, and if a woman was evil, she was compared to Jezebel.

Lest anyone think that the use of the term "Jezebel" is biased against women, let us all remember that the Church in Thyatira was founded and developed by a woman named Lydia (Acts 16). Lydia was a craftswoman and wealthy business owner. She specialized in the production of purple dye and richly colored textiles. This dye was rare and expensive to produce, and became associated with royalty. For some reason, before leaving Thyatira, St. Paul was inspired to go to the riverside where he met Lydia, who was probably there supervising the dying of cloth. At any rate, Lydia was immediately converted and enthusiastically became the host to a church in her home. A beautiful church now stands on the site where her home allegedly stood.

And so, just like in the book of Proverbs, there are two contrasting women, one representing the godly, prudent, and anointed woman (Lydia) with the corrupt, immoral woman (Jezebel). As we continue in the Book of Revelation, we shall these this contrast again.

In our own era, it is hard to deny that the spirit of Jezebel is still corrupting the church in the form of accomadatiing immorality for the sake of "fitting in" with the culture.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

correction: Paul actually met Lydia in Philippi, but she went home and founded the church in Thyatira, her home.

I read further about her after posting, and didn’t want to leave that unsaid.

Anyway, that would make Lydia a missionary as well as a craftswoman, businesswoman, and host of a church.

Amen !!! <><

Psalm 10

1 Why, O Lord, do you stand far off?
Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?
2 In arrogance the wicked persecute the poor—
let them be caught in the schemes they have devised.

3 For the wicked boast of the desires of their heart,
those greedy for gain curse and renounce the Lord.
4 In the pride of their countenance the wicked say, ‘God will not seek it out’;
all their thoughts are, ‘There is no God.’

5 Their ways prosper at all times;
your judgements are on high, out of their sight;
as for their foes, they scoff at them.
6 They think in their heart, ‘We shall not be moved;
throughout all generations we shall not meet adversity.’

7 Their mouths are filled with cursing and deceit and oppression;
under their tongues are mischief and iniquity.
8 They sit in ambush in the villages;
in hiding-places they murder the innocent.

Their eyes stealthily watch for the helpless;
9 they lurk in secret like a lion in its covert;
they lurk that they may seize the poor;
they seize the poor and drag them off in their net.

10 They stoop, they crouch,
and the helpless fall by their might.
11 They think in their heart, ‘God has forgotten,
he has hidden his face, he will never see it.’

12 Rise up, O Lord; O God, lift up your hand;
do not forget the oppressed.
13 Why do the wicked renounce God,
and say in their hearts, ‘You will not call us to account’?

14 But you do see! Indeed you note trouble and grief,
that you may take it into your hands;
the helpless commit themselves to you;
you have been the helper of the orphan.

15 Break the arm of the wicked and evildoers;
seek out their wickedness until you find none.
16 The Lord is king for ever and ever;
the nations shall perish from his land.

17 O Lord, you will hear the desire of the meek;
you will strengthen their heart, you will incline your ear
18 to do justice for the orphan and the oppressed,
so that those from earth may strike terror no more.*
