Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father In Heaven,
Hallowed be Your Most Holy Name!
For Your Alone Are Worthy of Our Worship,
For You Alone Are LORD,
You Alone Are the True God!
The Earth is Yours
And The Fullness thereof
You Control the Wind and The Rain
You Create a Lovely Spring Day
Or a Mighty Tempest.
Where can we run?
For When I Go to sleep at night, You are with me.
When I awake in the morning, You Are There.
You know my going out and my coming in.
You count every hair of my head,
And You keep all my tears in a bottle as a remembrance.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,

To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

One of my favorite old movies is "The Bridge on the River Kwai". In this movie, the great actor Sessue Hayakawa plays the evil Japanese Commandant of a Prison Camp in Burma, who torments and tortures British POWs and forces them into slave labor to build a railroad bridge.

The movie is based on a true story. There really was forced labor on the Japanese railway in Burma, and there really was an evil Japanese Commandant.

In the Book "In The Valley of the Kwai", the story is told for real. One of the Prisoners, a British Christian man, started a Bible Study for his fellow POWs. At first, the Commandant punished him severely, but then allowed the study to continue because he noticed that the men worked better with improved morale.

Fifty Years later, the aging British Veteran received a letter from the dying Japanese Commandant, who had been haunted by his Prisoner's behavior for the intervening years.

On his deathbed, he repented and became a Believer, and instructed that a letter be sent to the British Veteran, if he was still alive and could be located.

Personally, I struggle with this. But God's ways are not our ways, and His Tender Mercies are beyond anything I can imagine. We may never know the fate of people to whom we have shared the Gospel, until we meet them again in Heaven. In today's brief Reading, Paul rejoices in those who believed his preaching. He thanks God for them, and doesn't rehearse their pre-conversion state, no matter how wicked they may have been. His Prayer is one of Thanksgiving and Joy.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
