VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis urged parents on Wednesday not to condemn their children if they are gay, in his latest gesture of outreach to the LGBTQ community which has long been marginalized by the Catholic hierarchy.
Francis spoke off the cuff during his weekly Wednesday general audience dedicated to the figure of St. Joseph, the father of Jesus. Francis said he was thinking in particular about parents who are confronted with “sad” situations in their children’s lives.
Citing parents who have to cope with children who are sick, imprisoned or who get killed in car accidents, Francis added: “Parents who see that their children have different sexual orientations, how they manage that and accompany their children and not hide behind a condemning attitude.”

I think this pope loves the sin and hates the sinner.
That’s from the part of the Bible that is kept hidden in the Vatican, no doubt.
I save my condemnation for the ImPopester.
He’s leading his flock to perdition.
Gay children are the only children Pedo Frank cares about.
“Never tell your kids the truth!” -Pope Francis
What the heck are “gay children” other than children who have been molested?
Where are the Pope’s children?
And yet I’m sure he’d be the first to demand that parents condemn their children who support capitalism or fossil fuels.
Gay Children Urge Parents to ‘Never Condemn’ Their Pope
I think he DOES the sin
LGBTQ community which has long been marginalized by the Catholic hierarchy.
Wrong Bucko. They have been marginalized by insisting that we call a sin that cries out to heaven “good”.
very sad that my Pope is not Catholic.
[10] My son, if sinners shall entice thee, consent not to them. Proverbs, Chapter 1.
are parents only supposed to support this particular sinful behavior? or are parents supposed to support all sinful behavior their child might exhibit?
seriously curious.
A child being gay would be a difficult burden for any spiritually-minded parent. Would hopefully use it as an opportunity for serious personal repentance and deep heartfelt prayer. Could take a lifetime, but the Lord always hears our prayers.
Good grief. We can’t condemn anybody. However, sin condemns us all. Without salvation by grace through the atoning blood and sacrifice of our savior, Jesus, we are ALL condemned. Those who turn to Christ die to self, pick up their cross and follow Him. That means we try not to sin. You cannot have two masters.
The bible is clear in labeling sin. The pope is wrong. I follow Christ and no man. Choose wisely who you will follow, knowing poor choices lead to worse consequences...and perhaps eternal damnation.
Pope Fran's sys-tem: Suffer the little children to be groomed for some church leaders.
How about the Pope pick up the Holy Scriptures and read what the Great I AM has to say about men lying with men! Once he finally finds those scriptures then get back to us.
In the mean time those who are seeking reconciliation through the blood of the Christ, come! There is the God and Creator of mankind who loves all and has open arms.
To those in the church, judge rightly through the Spirit of the Living God! You don’t know how many homosexual deviants were counseled by those who have no foundation in the Holy Scriptures. They may have received counsel by “groomers” or people who benefit from their deviancy. Anyone with a media device knows how indoctrination into the normalization of deviant behavior takes place every minute of the day on tv programs. They call it diversity when it is actually perversity. In fact condemn the SIN not the sinner! Let them know that there is hope in Christ! At the end of your conversation you should not be in a place of promoting the deviant lifestyle. You should be in a place of “go and sin no more” at the appropriate time.
The Pope in his position is exposed to all the lawsuits of his holy conclave of idolatrous priests. He is caught in a trap. He is trying to “normalize” the deviancy and for all to accept it as part of human nature. In the end the house is going to be cleaned. In all times the unholy and deviants were dealt with at the appropriate time by the Lord God of creation.
I’m closer to your thinking, JoanSmith. Wouldn’t condemn a gay child in the sense of there’s no hope for you, but would let my beliefs be plainly known. No, you’re not sleeping in my house with your same or opposite sex partner. No, I’m not coming to your gay wedding. Jesus to the woman at the well : “You have had five husbands and the man you’re living with now is not your husband.” (Jn 4:18) Worked. Tradition says she became a saint.
Jesus to the woman caught in adultery: “Has no one condemned thee?Neither do I condemn thee. Go and sin no more.” (Jn 8:11) Jesus is said to have cast seven devils out of St. Mary Magdalene.
“Condemn not and you shall not be condemned.” (Lk 6:37)
Anger at Pope Francis, and he has angered me at this point too many times cannot lead to the denial of Scripture’s teaching about condemnation nor the plain teaching about the immorality of homosexual acts. Must accept and combine both.
Have personal experience speaking with homosexuals. Here come the tales of sexual abuse. Here come to the tales of a drunken father beating the hell out of them. In our poor imitations, we must be Christ to them. Not affirming compulsive behavior but not condemning them to despair. Gently guiding them to healing and wholeness. Have seen them healed by compassion and Grace. No more immoral acts. No more drinking. No more pot.
“Fathers, do not provoke your sons (children) to anger, but bring them up in the training/discipline and instruction of the Lord.” - Ephesians 6:4
