Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

2 Corinthians 12

Paul’s Vision and His Thorn

12 I must go on boasting. Although there is nothing to be gained, I will go on to visions and revelations from the Lord. 2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know—God knows. 3 And I know that this man—whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows— 4 was caught up to paradise and heard inexpressible things, things that no one is permitted to tell. 5 I will boast about a man like that, but I will not boast about myself, except about my weaknesses. 6 Even if I should choose to boast, I would not be a fool, because I would be speaking the truth. But I refrain, so no one will think more of me than is warranted by what I do or say, 7 or because of these surpassingly great revelations. Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Heavenly Father,
Blessed Are You, Oh LORD,
Our God, King of The Universe! You Alone Are Worthy of Worship and Praise.
You Alone Are Holy,
You Alone Are The Almighty,
You Alone Are the One True God!
Ancient of Days,
Rock of All Ages,
El Shaddai,
All Sufficient,
Our Great Provider and Sovereign Lord,
How Excellent is Your Holy Name Over All the Earth!
We, Your People, The Sheep of Your Pasture,
Come Before You in Thanksgiving and Praise.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Linda (not her real name) had been paralyzed by a doctor's error when she was only ten. She spent the rest of her short life in a facility as a quadriplegic. Since she was a cousin of a member of my church, we all fasted and prayed for a complete healing. When this didn't happen, there were some that said that Linda didn't have the faith to be healed. This was devastating to those of us who loved her, and I discontinued my relationship with that group, and continued my relationship with Linda. (Some of you may disagree, but it was what it was at the time). Anyway, in the same facility was a friend of my Mother-In-Law, Sam, suffering from ALS. He, too, was quadraplegic, and bedridden. Anyway, Linda used to scoot around the hospital in her electric reclining wheelchair, and brought joy and laughter to the patients. She was beloved by all. One day, when my M-I-L was visiting Sam, Linda scooted into the room and regaled the room with jokes and stories. Sam, who was barely verbal, let out a hearty laugh. My M-I-L was astonished. Linda and my M-I-L soon became great friends and corresponded regularly. Linda was able to write letters using a blow-tube and a special keyboard that was invented just for her. When Linda passed away, my M-I-L was devastated. I pray that Linda's powerful, joyous witness was enough to spark saving faith in my M-I-L.

Paul speaks of two very different kinds of prayer in this brief Passage. The first type is that of ecstatic prayer that lifts one up into heaven. It is glorious, joyous, and indescribable.

The second type of prayer is more personal. Paul shares that he has been praying for a healing for an unspecified "Thorn in the Flesh" that is really bothering him.

First, let's look at the ecstatic prayer. Paul doesn't say who the Visionary is who had this experience, but his description is so vivid, he is probably speaking of himself. My personal take on this is that, by identifying the visionary, Paul might risk attracting people to that person as some kind of guru, and then distract them from the Gospel. This was an issue in the Corinthian Church anyway. People were claiming to follow certain personalities who were powerful speakers, prophets, and leaders. This was causing division in the Church, and threatened its existance. The type of ecstatic prayer that Paul describes is WONDERFUL when it happens, but it is not the focus of our Worship. We do not worship God in order to obtain a magnificent vision of Heaven. We worship God because He is Worthy of Worship.

The second prayer in this excerpt is very personal and a testimony to Paul's transparency and honesty. It seems as though Paul had some issue, an illness, a disability, or even a personality flaw, that troubled him deeply. It could have been failing eyesight (there are some hints about that in other places in Scripture), or maybe an attitude problem that needed adjusting. Whatever it was, Paul described it as a "Thorn in his flesh", that buffeted him. He begged and pleaded with God to have it removed. Here he was, Paul, the Great Evangelist, and his own prayers didn't seem to be answered. Finally the revelation came to Paul that, yes, indeed, his prayer was being answered. God revealed that GOD'S strength is made perfect in Paul's weakness. The "Thorn" was there for a reason. It was the way God allowed adversity to develop Paul's Spiritual Walk, and, in return, develop our own two Millennia later.

We will never know the name of the guy who had the ecstatic vision. But Paul, we know, and can read about his prayer life, his walk with Christ, his victories, his stumblings, and his amazing faith.

And so, God answered Paul's Prayer, in a better way than he could have ever imagined.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

With all the attention in world affairs we have not forgotten Israel... so we come before you asking that you would influence her leadership in the direction you would have it to go..and this according to your purposes and will.

In your name,
Amen

Psalm 54

To the leader: with stringed instruments. A Maskil of David, when the Ziphites went and told Saul, ‘David is in hiding among us.’

1 Save me, O God, by your name,
and vindicate me by your might.
2 Hear my prayer, O God;
give ear to the words of my mouth.

3 For the insolent have risen against me,
the ruthless seek my life;
they do not set God before them.
Selah

4 But surely, God is my helper;
the Lord is the upholder of* my life.
5 He will repay my enemies for their evil.
In your faithfulness, put an end to them.

6 With a freewill-offering I will sacrifice to you;
I will give thanks to your name, O Lord, for it is good.
7 For he has delivered me from every trouble,
and my eye has looked in triumph on my enemies.

Some had said the vision was Paul’s after he was stoned and left for dead. Then again, who knows? Only God.

Some had said the vision was Paul’s after he was stoned and left for dead. Then again, who knows? Only God.

That is a very plausible explanation.
