On Dec. 21 the Hindu nationalist government of the Indian state of Karnataka introduced harsh legislation intended to prevent conversions from Hinduism to other faiths.
Alongside brazen attacks on Christian targets in several states and a Missionaries of Charity home in Gujarat state charged with “conversion,” the conversion issue has escalated with an anti-conversion bill presented Dec. 21 in the legislature of southern Karnataka state.
“This is a Christmas whammy for us,” Archbishop Peter Machado of Bangalore, head of the Catholic Church in Karnataka, told the Register.
“Wherever the BJP is in power, they are pushing this [anti-conversion] law to polarize the Hindus against minorities,” said Archbishop Machado.
“The Karnataka Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Bill 2021” has several stringent provisions including 10-year imprisonment for conversion by “fraud or inducement,” and mandates prior permission from senior government officials for anyone intending to change their faith.
Eight Indian states, most of them ruled by the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), have enacted anti-conversion legislation, which is euphemistically called “Freedom of Religion” legislation. The BJP is also India’s ruling party at the national level. ... Government officials visited a Missionaries of Charity home in Vadodara on Dec. 9 and charged the nuns with conversion under Gujarat’s ‘Freedom of Religion’ Act, citing the finding of Bibles in the home for orphan girls.
Two Ursuline Franciscan nuns waiting at a bus stop in Uttar Pradesh in early October were stopped by Hindu fundamentalists and forcibly taken to a police station. The nuns were picked up along with a group of evangelical Christians, who had been accused of conversion for holding a routine Sunday prayer meeting.

This is about the caste system. Christians don’t stay in their caste.
In the early 2000s there was a Hindu temple in the neighborhood where I lived. Went on the grounds one day while out for a walk. Creepiest feeling. Could almost feel the demonic oppression. Mother Teresa and others have picked their abandoned, orphaned people out of the gutters for decades. Some countries seem beyond hope though God wants individual souls, not countries, saved.
Intolerant India has been the #2 source country for USA immigration for at least the last five years.
Communist China has been #1 over the same period.
Mexico, which elected a crypto-Communist President a couple years ago, I think is #3.
As a sovereign nation, the USA could pick and chose the smartest, the most creative, and most energetic immigrants in the world.
Instead, we open our borders to millions of people who vote 65%-80% Socialist.

The Hare Krisnas were campaigning for Trump, even dancing at his events. Anecdotal reports indicated Trump won millions of Indian votes in 2016 (though I could find no official exit polling on them, and a few polls lumping in Indians with Muslims and other Asians were all negative for Trump). Some of the Hindus in India were literally worshiping Trump as an Avatar of one of their gods lol.
That said, the anti-Christian legislation is repulsive and is not compatible with a free country.
They’re still better than the Chinese, at least, who even go as far as to re-write the Bible.
I never viewed India as a “free” country (due to several things, the anti-Christian LAWS being just one of them). Socialist countries aren’t truly free (even with elections); we see it in the COVID tyranny of the European Union and increasingly within our own country.
