Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Isaiah 64

[a]Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down,
    that the mountains would tremble before you!

2  As when fire sets twigs ablaze
    and causes water to boil,
come down to make your name known to your enemies
    and cause the nations to quake before you!

3  For when you did awesome things that we did not expect,
    you came down, and the mountains trembled before you.

4  Since ancient times no one has heard,
    no ear has perceived,
no eye has seen any God besides you,
    who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.

5  You come to the help of those who gladly do right,
    who remember your ways.
But when we continued to sin against them,
    you were angry.
    How then can we be saved?

6  All of us have become like one who is unclean,
    and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;
we all shrivel up like a leaf,
    and like the wind our sins sweep us away.

7  No one calls on your name
    or strives to lay hold of you;
for you have hidden your face from us
    and have given us over to[b] our sins.

8  Yet you, Lord, are our Father.
    We are the clay, you are the potter;
    we are all the work of your hand.

9  Do not be angry beyond measure, Lord;
    do not remember our sins forever.
Oh, look on us, we pray,
    for we are all your people.

10  Your sacred cities have become a wasteland;
    even Zion is a wasteland, Jerusalem a desolation.

11  Our holy and glorious temple, where our ancestors praised you,
    has been burned with fire,
    and all that we treasured lies in ruins.

12  After all this, Lord, will you hold yourself back?
    Will you keep silent and punish us beyond measure?

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Oh LORD,
Our God,
Who can stand in the Day of Your Wrath?
Yet Your Mercies are New Every Morning,
And Your Lovingkindness is Better Than Life!
Let us never forget Your Righteousness
And Your Holiness, Oh LORD.
May We Never lose sight of that,
And May We Rely Totally On Your Amazing Grace.

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

Let all that has Been Concealed,
Be Revealed.

God Bless America.

Psalm 27

Of David.

1 The Lord is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold* of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?

2 When evildoers assail me
to devour my flesh—
my adversaries and foes—
they shall stumble and fall.

3 Though an army encamp against me,
my heart shall not fear;
though war rise up against me,
yet I will be confident.

4 One thing I asked of the Lord,
that will I seek after:
to live in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to behold the beauty of the Lord,
and to inquire in his temple.

5 For he will hide me in his shelter
in the day of trouble;
he will conceal me under the cover of his tent;
he will set me high on a rock.

6 Now my head is lifted up
above my enemies all around me,
and I will offer in his tent
sacrifices with shouts of joy;
I will sing and make melody to the Lord.

7 Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud,
be gracious to me and answer me!
8 ‘Come,’ my heart says, ‘seek his face!’
Your face, Lord, do I seek.
9 Do not hide your face from me.

Do not turn your servant away in anger,
you who have been my help.
Do not cast me off, do not forsake me,
O God of my salvation!
10 If my father and mother forsake me,
the Lord will take me up.

11 Teach me your way, O Lord,
and lead me on a level path
because of my enemies.
12 Do not give me up to the will of my adversaries,
for false witnesses have risen against me,
and they are breathing out violence.

13 I believe that I shall see the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living.
14 Wait for the Lord;
be strong, and let your heart take courage;
wait for the Lord!

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Among the stack of Bills, Advertising Junk Mail, and appeals from questionable charities, there was a card from my sister, who lives so far to the North that we call it "Almost Canada". Inside the envelope was a lovely card, and inside the card were two 4x6 photographs. One of them was of me and Penny, and the other was an incredibly handsome young man in 1950's casual clothing, leaning on the capstain of a 19th Century Sailing Ship. I looked closer. It was my Dad! Since I was born when Dad was 26, I was about 7 or 8 when the photo was taken. I racked my brains, and sure enough, Dad had taken us kids to "Old Ironsides" which was berthed in Charlestown, MA, right across the bridge from Downtown Boston. The whole visit came back to me! I have been there many times since, but there was nothing like that first visit!

My Dad was a Navy Veteran of WW2 and Korea, and Old Ironsides is the oldest Commissioned Vessel in the US Navy. He loved taking us there, and also took us to the USS Massachusetts (Battleship), and many other historic places. From Dad, I inherited my love of Travel, Adventure, Sailing, Classical Music, History, Exploration, and, most importantly, Faith.

Now I know I am extremely blessed to have such wonderful memories of my Dad. Not everybody can say that, and I am not insensitive to people who have experienced rejection, neglect, or even abuse from their fathers. I wish I could do something to "fix" that, but all I can do is listen, comfort, and pray. As humans, many fathers fail in their calling. God has given us an Ideal, and all we can do is our best.

On the other hand, nursing grievances from people who have "gone on" doesn't do us any good either! When we free someone who has failed us, so that Our Heavenly Father can forgive him, we are, in effect, freeing ourselves. This is the essence of the "tricky part" of the Lord's Prayer:

"Forgive us our tresspasses,
As we forgive those who have trespassed against us."

In the flesh, this is impossible, but nothing is impossible with God.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen
