Cardinal Sarah: This Reform Is IRREVERSIBLE - Despite Clerical Intransigence

History will remember Benedict XVI as a great theologian and as the Pope of Summorum Pontificum, Cardinal Robert Sarah told IlTimone.it (July 2).

He believes that with the Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum began “a path of liturgical and spiritual REFORM" which in spite of difficulties, and resistances is "irreversible.”

Sarah acknowledges a new generation of young people and families which emerged in the Church “despite intransigent clerical attitudes of opposition” to the Roman Mass.

“This liturgy has a future because it has a past, a history of holiness and beauty that cannot be erased or abolished from one day to the next,” he observes. Sarah was ordained a priest in the Novus Ordo.

He avoided talking about Francis’ plans to harm the Roman Liturgy and twisted things by presenting the “clerical attitudes" of opposition against the Roman Mass as a “clericalism that Francis has denounced on several occasions.”

Pope Benedict appears to be taking the Republican Party approach to the Marxist Assault on the Church. Speak in obliques. But, avoid confronting the Marxist’s head-on. If you do not identify the enemy in no uncertain terms you give the enemy an advantage needlessly by giving them cover. You will not defeat the enemy if you are afraid to even name them. Weak opposition is no opposition at all.

I would think it can be reversed by someone in the future, by using the exact same process that this “Pope” used to do what he is doing. Where does he argue that this “irreversibility” comes from?

I would argue it comes from the Council of Trent.

“Weak opposition is no opposition at all.”

True. Perhaps a better analysis of B XVI’s strategy is to welcome the rule that no one who rejects the Pope is saved from hell. Every day B XVI sees the danger of people who reject his papacy and authority.

Pope Benedict willingly gave up his Papacy to the Marxist Heretics. He remained silent for years. His recent comments are supportive of Traditional Catholicism but they are very very weak. Several Priests are risking much to champion Traditional Catholicism and are being ostracized and sent into exile. Where is his full vocal support of these few Brave Priests?
Nowhere to be found. The savior of the Catholic Church will not come from within the Vatican. The savior of The Church will only come from the Faithful Flock. We are the only hope for the Church. It is OUR CALLING. Our Time. If WE are up to the task.

Oh I see what you are saying. He is saying that the current Pope cannot reverse earlier reforms that we approve of? Is that closer to it?

Seems to me from reading history, that the laity have exercised a “veto power” over changes made to the sacred liturgy. There have been riots over attempted liturgical reforms, such as the attempt to abolish the Ambrosian Rite in the 1400s.

How do we square this with obedience and the natural order of things?....that’s the problem.

But sometimes when the people who are supposed to be ruling and governing become so weak and unmanly, others are raised up in their stead. If men drop the ball, sometimes women have to step up and lead instead.

The hierarchs have definitely dropped the ball. It might be time for us in the laity to temporary fill the gap until things can be restored to proper order again.
