Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 70

Psalm 70[a]

For the director of music. Of David. A petition.

1 Hasten, O God, to save me;
    come quickly, Lord, to help me.

2 May those who want to take my life
    be put to shame and confusion;
may all who desire my ruin
    be turned back in disgrace.
3 May those who say to me, “Aha! Aha!”
    turn back because of their shame.
4 But may all who seek you
    rejoice and be glad in you;
may those who long for your saving help always say,
    “The Lord is great!”

5 But as for me, I am poor and needy;
    come quickly to me, O God.
You are my help and my deliverer;
    Lord, do not delay.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father, Who Art in Heaven,
Holy and Sanctified is Your Glorious Name Forever!
We Come Into Your Holy Presence To Worship You,
And You Alone.
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are LORD,
You Alone Are The One True God of Abraham!
Ancient of Days,
Rock of Ages,
LORD of Hosts,
Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Omnipresent,
You Know the end from the beginning,
And the beginning from the end.
You Are The Author of Life,
Our Precious Creator,
You formed us in the secret places of our mother's womb,
And have a perfect plan for each and every one of us.
Almighty God, We Lift up to you the current situation in Our Country.
We Plead That You Will Make Your Will Known in such a way,
That those who seek to harm Our Nation
Will be ashamed,
confounded,
turned backward,
and put to confusion.

Let All That Has Been Concealed,
Be Revealed.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our Beloved USA
We Ask That Your People Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Three stories, and a connection:

1. As a child, I was always impressed by the reading of the Gospel, but especially the Parables and Stories of Jesus. Perhaps because I was always a bit of a rebel and a smart-alek, I particularly loved the stories in which the humble were exalted and the exalted were humbled. That would include the Parable of the Wedding Banquet, the Story of the Pharisee and the Publican, and the instructions for choosing your seat at a party. I always loved it when the "underdog" won! Maybe it was because I sometime felt like an underdog.

For whatever reason, Jesus seemed to me to be the perfect defender of the humble, like my other heroes Zorro and the Lone Ranger. Ironically, my heroes wore masks to conceal their identity. Jesus didn't wear a mask, but He did tell his disciples to keep His True Identity a SECRET. Sometimes, after performing a great miracle, He would say "Don't Tell Anyone," but, of course, they DID. Who could keep such a thing secret?

2. Our magnanimous guv'nah Charlie Baker hath decreed that masks will be no longer necessary after June 15th (as of the latest fiat, but that could change). Meanwhile, live music is now allowed in restaurants but the singers have to be TWENTY-FIVE FEET AWAY from the nearest customer, and TEN FEET AWAY from the rest of the band. As if the average restaurant has room for such silliness. Maybe that will change on June 15th as well. If a singer is only TWENTY-FOUR FEET away from a restaurant patron, is she now a disease vector? Are the rest of the band (Only Ten Feet Away) at risk of infection? Were they more at risk during those marathon rehearsals in the drummer's living room? And what about the HORN SECTION? (eyew)

3. Some of my neighbors were sitting around a campfire playing guitar. I sat down, picked up the guitar and sang two Van Morrison songs. One of the guys started bad-mouthing Van, saying that he had gone over to "The Dark Side" because he was telling people not to wear masks. (I didn't know this guy). Since I didn't want to get into a political argument with a stranger, I stood up, handed the guitar back and walked away. Incidentally, NOBODY singing and playing around that campfire was wearing a mask. I went right home, went online, and bought Van's new CD with all his rebellious, free-thinking, mask-free songs.

Today's Psalm is a Petition. While "Petition" is a legitimate form of prayer, it can sometimes dominate our prayer life. It seems that we are always asking God for something. There is nothing wrong with that, but we do not want to neglect other things like Praise, Adoration, Thanksgiving, and Meditating on God's Love.

David was so transparent before the LORD that his prayers can sound a wee bit "irreverent" to our sensitive ears. He was completely transparent before God. He did not censor what came out of his mouth. He never wore a mask.

"Masks" in prayer would include pious boasting of one's own righteousness(like the Pharisee in the Temple), protestations of innocence (like Job), Instructing God on how to answer a prayer, Making excuses for sin, and so on. These "masks" become very soiled and nasty with usage, and are like filthy rags covered with human waste (Isaiah 64:6).

And so, when asking God for something, let us not forget Who He Is, and who we are. And ditch that nasty mask!

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

PRAYERS ASCENDING ON HIGH FOR
THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM!
And for the Preservation of the Valiant
Israeli Nation!

_AKE haste, O God, to deliver me; make haste to help me, O LORD.

2 Let them be ashamed and confounded that seek after my soul: let them be turned backward, and put to confusion, that desire my hurt.
3 Let them be turned back for a reward of their shame that say, Aha, aha.

4 Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified.

5 But I am poor and needy: make haste unto me, O God: thou art my help and my deliverer; O LORD, make no tarrying.

And so, when asking God for something, let us not forget Who He Is, and who we are. And ditch that nasty mask!

It is so foolish to wear a mask before God, who already knows our every thought. So, when I add my "Amen!" to the others here, He knows I mean it. Like Nathanael, I wish for Jesus to declare that in me "there is no deceit.”
