The Sierra Pacific Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) has elected its first transgender person to serve as bishop in the denomination.
On Saturday, Rev. Megan Rohrer, pastor of Grace Lutheran Church in San Francisco and community chaplain coordinator for the San Francisco Police Department, was officially selected as bishop.
According to Religion News Service, Rohrer is the first openly transgender person to serve as bishop in the ELCA or any other major Christian denominations in the U.S.
Rohrer was also the first transgender person to be ordained in the ELCA in 2006 and the first to serve as pastor of Grace Lutheran in 2014.
"It's an honor to be called to serve the Sierra Pacific Synod," Rohrer told Religion News Service in a statement. "During this time when some imagine trans people at their worst, Lutherans have once again declared that transgender people are beautiful children of God. Thank you to everyone who has been praying for me and my family as I accept this call."
Rohrer was elected on the fifth ballot during Saturday's episcopal election, defeating the Rev. Jeff R. Johnson, pastor of the University of California, Berkeley's Lutheran chapel. Johnson had been leading in the vote until the final ballot.
Rohrer, 41, is well known for working with the homeless and advocating for LGBTQ rights in street activism, preaching and writing. Rohrer has also appeared on the television series "Queer Eye" and in profiles Time magazine and Cosmopolitan.
"Using faith to tear other people down is not good news," Rohrer told Cosmopolitan in 2017. "We need to all be as loud and as angry as the people who want to declare that there are types of people that God can't love."

I’ll make sure and put them on my list of DO NOT visit denominations.
This is so hard to square, just with Christian tradition all the back to the beginning, much less scriptural Christianity. Why don’t these churches just admit they are no longer “Christian” churches?
Do I think Christians should have compassion and sympathy for the person who obtains an identity dysphoria manifest in an errant obsession that denies their biological sex? Yes.
But that compassion and sympathy, from others to the individual, to me is not appropriately extended to acceptance of their obsession as anything less than like an addict being given what satisfies their addiction instead of the tools to fight their way out of the addiction. That is not compassion or sympathy. It’s denial.
And worse, acceptance all the way to a “Christian” leadership position for someone who has not conquered the demons of such an obsession? No. Surely not.
So it’s a cult, not a church. Got it.

As the 2009 ELCA Church Wide Assembly wrapped up their meeting which had approved ordaining active homosexuals two days earlier, on Friday, August 21, 2009, Rev. Matthew Harrison, (LCMS President since 2010) answered a question from Rev. Todd Wilken (at 9:46) on the Issues, Etc radio program:
Wilken: “Is apostasy too strong a word to describe what we’ve watched over the last — better part — of the decade that culminates this afternoon in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America?”
Harrison: “No, it is apostasy. There’s no way around it. It gives me great pain to say that, but there’s no other word for it.”
In its 2012 “Response” to the ELCA’s 2009 decision to recognize “homosexual marriage,” the LCMS Commission on Theology and Church Relations stated (p. 21): "The ELCA has now taken this step, embodying apostasy from the faith once delivered to the saints."
Thus the ELCA organization has been recognized by the LCMS as neither Lutheran nor Christian. The XXXA is a tool of Satan.

This whole deranged, deluded, and demon-possessed crew is trying to do the same thing to the Orthodox Church in leftist areas, with much less success. Perhaps we need to unleash our best exorcists—first on any wayward Orthodox communities, and then on the Lutherans!!!!
Perhaps some of the Lutherans—once they are healed of their delusions—will want to become Orthodox catechumens!!!! Lord have Mercy!!!!
