Catholics “absolutely” can not support the killing of unborn babies in abortions, San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone said Tuesday in an interview with Fox & Friends.
The archbishop spoke with host Steve Doocy about a pastoral letter that he published over the weekend, explaining why Catholics who persist in supporting abortion may be denied Communion.
“Can you be a devout practicing Catholic and support abortion?” Doocy asked.
“Absolutely not, absolutely not,” Cordileone responded. “We’re talking about killing innocent human beings. So this is a very serious matter. Anyone who cooperates in that is involving themselves in a very serious sin, and absolutely not. That’s not possible.”
The archbishop said he wrote the letter to help people understand the gravity of the issue of abortion. Since 1973, more than 62 million unborn babies have been killed in abortions in America.
“This is not one policy issue among several. This is the most fundamental right. It’s the right to life,” he said.

Sit, Joe, Nancy, Durbin, etc down and tell them the choices. Repent and stop supporting/advocating for abortion. It’s their choice which is the most important to them.

I like +Cordileone. His diocese ain’t perfect, and that a not insignificant number of priests, parishes and schools under his jurisdiction ain’t everything they should be. BUT the man does the best he can. When so many of the priests, school teachers and people in the pews aren’t onboard with Catholic teachings, it’s an uphill battle. I remember 6 years ago when many of the “prominent” Catholics of the diocese signed an open letter to the pope begging him to dump Cordileone. And to some extent it’s surprising that Bergoglio didn’t bite. I’ve heard, though, that as one of the fluent Italian speakers in the American episcopacy, Cordileone has friends in Rome.
