Pope to speak on Italy’s ‘demographic winter,’ offer perspective on birth rates

VATICAN CITY, May 5, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — The Vatican has announced that Pope Francis will join politicians and journalists in addressing an Italian conference on the demographic crisis facing the nation, and the declining rate of births.

The Vatican’s Monday announcement noted that the Pope is to provide the opening address at the conference, for the General States of Birth, due to be held just outside the Vatican on May 14 at the Auditorium della Conciliazione.

The “Forum for Family Associations,” which organizes the conference, mentioned the “demographic winter” and the “empty cradles” which are being seen in Italy. The aim of the one-day event is to “launch an appeal for mutual responsibility to get the country moving again, beginning with new births.”

Referencing the decline in births, the Forum warned that the country could soon see a collapse of the “fundamental pillars” on which the nation is built.

The General States of Birth mentioned that 2020 had seen the continuation of a long trend of declining birth rates, with just over 404,000 births that year, which was a 3.8% drop from 2019, which had been the worst recorded year for births.

Then in a 2016 in-flight interview, the Pope famously attacked large Catholic families, saying, “God gives you methods to be responsible … Some think that, excuse me if I use that word, that in order to be good Catholics we have to be like rabbits. No. Responsible parenthood!”

That same year, the Pope abolished the pro-life declaration which members of the Pontifical Academy for Life previously had to support, and subsequently appointed members to the academy who supported abortion.

Pretty much expecting Bergoglio to give a speech along the lines of “Contracept away, paisans. The answer is to import more migrants.”

Do we have a communist, gay pope supporting pro-abortion scientists, politicians and speakers?

Is there some magic number of people that need to live in Italy?

Kind of like some magic temperature that the earth is required to be?

Just leave things alone, you despicable, fraud pope.

No mention of trees, socialism, border hopping, or fertility goddesses? That’s unusual.

“Only if Bergoglio were actually Pope.”

Ok, I’ll bite, explain how he is not actually the Pope.

Don’t misunderstand, I have zero respect for this idolator/communist, but I’m curious as to what you’re driving at.

There’s an excellent case to be made that Joseph Ratzinger, AKA Benedict XVI, is still pope.

Thus, the election of Bergoglio as Pope has no more validity than a marriage in a movie.

That's just because he hasn't made his speech yet.

The very least Francis could be doing is besides raising theological questions on the assertions made in the Islamic codex (which is their code of observance and behavior) known as Sharia, and should be defending the Chinese Catholics.
Ignores this http://www.theusmat.com/islamandfreewill.htm
and also seems to ignore what Our Savior went through to establish the new covenant , Then Plays with suppressors of the faith

Francis continuing destructive confusing pontificating on temporal worldly social behavior, which has nothing to do with and avoids articles of faith and morals rebukes or restrains contemplative religious orders to favor such behavior .

By refusing to question and expound on the profound differences with the claims made by Islam and its followers Reaching out to and defend what Judeo/Christian beliefs are.Or challenge claims that Islamist make they are following God’s command using deceit and deception when ruthlessly murdering and torturing non believers and destroy their edifice .Smply because of its assertion of being monotheistic. Then winds up making a point of honoring it and placing it on an equal level because of that claim. Is leading to misguided conversions which is the result of my so called Pope playing games with this so called mono theistic cult and is creating a serious fracture within Christianity and The Roman Rite .

“There’s an excellent case to be made that Joseph Ratzinger, AKA Benedict XVI, is still pope.”

Ah, I see. OK, well that would be preferred and it has been insufficiently discussed how this came about. And Ratzinger lives to this day.

Something not Kosher about the whole thing. But we remain in the dark.

I am still very concerned about this, although I am no longer a Catholic. Is it because of this? No. Was this in anyway an inducement to stay? Heck no.

Some Italian stats from different sources

Birth rate
8.37 births/1,000 population (2021 est.) Country comparison to the world: 217th
8.94 births/1,000 population (2013 est.)[46]

Death rate
10.7 deaths/1,000 population (2021 est.) Country comparison to the world: 25th
10.01 deaths/1,000 population (2013 est.)

Italy’s population was 59.259 million on January 1, 2021.
The number of births has dropped from 577,000 in 2008 to 404,000 in 2020
Italy registered 746,000 deaths in 2020

(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 3 - ISTAT said Monday that Italy registered 746,000 deaths in 2020, up 18% with respect to 2019.
The national statistics agency said that the increase in deaths, linked to COVID-19, coupled with a decrease in births led to a drop in the Italian population of 384,000 last year.
It said Italy’s population was 59.259 million on January 1, 2021. (ANSA).

(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 3 - Births in Italy have dropped some 30% in 12 years, ISTAT said in its annual demographics report on Monday.
The number of births has dropped from 577,000 in 2008 to 404,000 in 2020, the statistics agency said.
The fertility rate fell to 1.24 children per woman in 2020 from 1.27 in 2019 and from 1.40 in 2008.
In 2020, the report said there was the “umpteenth” drop in births.

ISTAT said it was “significant to note that the variation over 2019 relating to the month of December turns out to be the maximum, at around 3,500 fewer births, corroborating the hypothesis that, as well as the overall trend, the pandemic, too, has started exercising a downward pressure on the birth rate”. (ANSA).

The last sentence is important not just to Italy. Essentially, it is saying that the births are likely to dropped much further in 2021. 3,500 x 12 = 42,000. Just 10% of the already low 400,000 for 2020 (children who were conceived prior to the start of the pandemic).

“I am no longer a Catholic.”

Please come back to the Church. Don’t deprive yourself of the consolation of the Holy Eucharist because of confused teaching and dissent among SOME MEMBERS of the Church. The Church Herself remains Holy.

A Pope CAN resign or even turn down his election. It’s happened before. Francis was elected in a legitimate conclave. I preferred the leadership of Benedict and John Paul but Francis IS the true Pope in 2021. Focus on the fact that Christ guides His Church despite waves of confusion, dissent, and scandal. Keep your EYES on HIM.

“Francis was elected in a legitimate conclave.”

Yes, that is actually the problem. It’s not the man himself, it’s that the same College of Cardinals went from Benedict to Francis. It’s also that no legit reason has ever been given for Benedict resigning. I think most people thought he was ill and just didn’t want to reveal it, or something like that. But clearly that was not the case.

But as I said, this is not why I left. Thanks for your kind words but I am much closer to Christ than I ever was before, so I am good. But, I still have great love for the RC Church and regardless of my own issues or views it is one of the most important institutions in the world, and boy have they been screwing up for a long time. Maybe they always screwed up, I get it they’re people, we screw up. But it’s been one own goal after another since VCII which happened when I was just a schoolchild. That is what started to mess stuff up for me, so at age 7 I became one of *those* people.
