Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Psalm 49

Psalm 49[a]

For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm.

1 Hear this, all you peoples;
    listen, all who live in this world,
2 both low and high,
    rich and poor alike:
3 My mouth will speak words of wisdom;
    the meditation of my heart will give you understanding.
4 I will turn my ear to a proverb;
    with the harp I will expound my riddle:

5 Why should I fear when evil days come,
    when wicked deceivers surround me—
6 those who trust in their wealth
    and boast of their great riches?
7 No one can redeem the life of another
    or give to God a ransom for them—
8 the ransom for a life is costly,
    no payment is ever enough—
9 so that they should live on forever
    and not see decay.
10 For all can see that the wise die,
    that the foolish and the senseless also perish,
    leaving their wealth to others.
11 Their tombs will remain their houses[b] forever,
    their dwellings for endless generations,
    though they had[c] named lands after themselves.

12 People, despite their wealth, do not endure;
    they are like the beasts that perish.

13 This is the fate of those who trust in themselves,
    and of their followers, who approve their sayings.[d]
14 They are like sheep and are destined to die;
    death will be their shepherd
    (but the upright will prevail over them in the morning).
Their forms will decay in the grave,
    far from their princely mansions.
15 But God will redeem me from the realm of the dead;
    he will surely take me to himself.
16 Do not be overawed when others grow rich,
    when the splendor of their houses increases;
17 for they will take nothing with them when they die,
    their splendor will not descend with them.
18 Though while they live they count themselves blessed—
    and people praise you when you prosper—
19 they will join those who have gone before them,
    who will never again see the light of life.

20 People who have wealth but lack understanding
    are like the beasts that perish.

Abba Father,
Most Excellent Majesty!
Magnified and Sanctified
is Your Most Holy and Wonderful Name!
How Glorious and How Marvelous are Your Works,
Of which only now we are starting to glimpse a tiny portion!
You are Eternal,
Immortal,
Everlasting,
And Unchanging,
Yesterday,
Today, and Forever.
There is no shadow of turning with You.
Even when we are unfaithful,
You are Forever Faithful to Your Covenants!

Let All That Has Been Concealed,
Be Revealed.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our Beloved USA
We Ask That Your People Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

I have a very tiny yard, but a nice big deck. Every year I plant flowers and herbs, both in the tiny yard and in pots up on the deck. The herbs are readily available to me when I cook (although my favorite thing to make for dinner is RESERVATIONS!). Usually, I buy flats of already-started plants and just stick them in the pots or in the ground.

However, a few weeks ago, DOLLAR TREE had seed packets at 4 for a buck. I bought 16 packets with everything from dill and parsley to marigolds. I laid out all the seed trays on the deck and filled each one with soil. then I opened the packets and attempted to space out the tiny seeds. Although the marigold seeds are easily identified, herb seeds are notoriously tiny. Finally after hours of painstaking work, I set the seed trays under a glass table on the deck to germinate. It is now three weeks later and I have...NOTHING. Grrrrrrr. So I went out to the nursery and bought a bunch of "flats". Now my yard looks nice.

Patience is not one of my "virtues". It should be, because it is one of what St. Paul calls the "Fruit of the Spirit". If the Holy Spirit is working in my life, I SHOULD be exhibiting Patience, but it seems elusive to me. I have to admit, I am very patient with my students, but very IMPATIENT with myself. I am artistic, but can't abide crafts that have "wait time" between stages. I am the same way with my own music, and will often "do it myself" rather than wait for a collaborator to show up.

The Psalmist, speaking the Word of God, tells us to "Be Still and Know that I AM God". "Doing" can often overtake "Knowing" and cause self-sufficiency to exclude the Creator of the Universe!

Oh...LOOK! I just went out onto the deck. The seedlings are coming up after all! :-)
