Rome Rehabilitates Judas on Holy Thursday

Vatican media honors traitor as a recipient of 'the scandal of mercy'

VATICAN CITY (ChurchMilitant.com) - In a ringing endorsement of the world's best-known traitor, the Vatican's most prestigious publication has dedicated its Maundy Thursday Italian edition to rehabilitating Judas Iscariot through word and art.

L'Osservatore Romano's cover page features a painting of a naked Jesus by an unnamed artist bending over a dead Judas who has a blood-red loincloth around his waist. The tree on which Judas has hung himself is in the background.

In the front-page editorial titled "Judas and the Scandal of Mercy," which accompanies the illustration, the newspaper's director Andrea Monda reveals that L'Osservatore Romano decided this year to highlight the "most tragic and unsettling" figure in the New Testament.

Monda, however, does not disclose the painter's name or the title of the painting. Instead, he praises the work as having "dizzying expressive power," which "can be admired on the front page" of the publication.

Imagery Inspired by Francis

The editorial writer explains that the painting is the "fruit of the meditations" of Pope Francis' book Quando pregate dite Padre Nostro (When you pray say Our Father).

In the 2018 book, Francis speaks of Judas and God's mercy, basing his theological argument for the likelihood of Judas' salvation on a sculpture of the traitor carved on the capital of a column in the Basilica of St. Mary Magdalene in Vézelay, Burgundy.

The bible calls Judas a thief, an embezzler, and a betrayer. Nowhere in the Bible is Judas favorably portrayed.

Mathew 26:24

[24] The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man shall be betrayed: it were better for him, if that man had not been born. [25] And Judas that betrayed him, answering, said: Is it I, Rabbi? He saith to him: Thou hast said it.

Yes, agreed and without commentary or attempting to defend Judas, have we all not stolen, embezzled, and betrayed others at some point in our lives? Are we all not liars, cheaters and thieves to one extent of another? And if Judas had not betrayed Christ, how would Christ have been crucified, died and risen again without being betrayed?

I don’t have the answers but believe all things happen in accordance with the Lord’s will.

Perhaps Judas was destined to betrayed the Lord in order to fulfill His will.

Judas never ASKED for forgiveness.

You do have to ask and you have to resolve not to do it again.

Judas decided to do it himself. He would decide what is punishment would be.

That is not the way it works.

The PARTY is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 It maketh me to write green legislation: It leadeth me beside polluted waters.

3 The PARTY restoreth my soul: it leadeth me in the paths of wokness for wokeness sake.

4 Yea, though I walk through the Valley of the Shadow of Climate Change I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Marx and his Book comfort me.

5 Thou preparest a Utopia before me in the presence of White Supremacists . Thou anointest my pointy head with oil; my mouth runneth over.

6 Surely Political Correctness shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the House of Congress forever. AMEN

Judas was the first socialist. When Mary poured a bottle of nard, an expensive perfume from India, over Jesus, Judas objected, saying that the perfume should have been sold and the money given to the poor.

What part of “it would have been better were he never born” did they not read? Playing hooky that day in class on the words of Jesus?

And just like the socialists, he wasn’t really concerned about the poor. He wanted to get his cut.

If Judas was condemned to do the deed before the world was formed, did Judas have free will with the weight of the world depending on his deed? Would God have given Judas free will, in the event Judas could have declined? It is understood that God knows everything before it happens, and it is understood that God is a just God, so is it just that God created Judas to reveal the Christ? But, if he then was created specifically to reveal the Christ, leading to Christ’s crucifiction so that you and I can have eternal life, how could he have declined?

I understand that God creates the just and the unjust, and that God knew before each is born which ones will be condemened to Hell. And, they all have free will. Even so, He creates them regardless. So, why would Judas be any different, is the consideration.

Thus, most believe Judas is condemned to Hell. But, can we be certain?

“It is understood that God knows everything before it happens”

Nope. God knows free choice. He’s that powerful and Love.

God is Love. We are NOT ROBOTS! ☝

Well. It has been my limited experience as a Christian to understand that forgiveness is one of the most powerful and central tenets.

I do believe I have felt that exactly myself.

God judges no one until their death.

Judas had free will just as Adam and Eve did.

Peter betrayed Jesus Christ the same night as Judas did.

But unlike Peter, Adam and Eve did, Judas did not repent. He despaired and killed himself. He sought forgiveness from men, the high priests who had paid him, but not from God.

Nope. God knows free choice.

Absolutely correct!

Judas had by all means the freedom to choose NOT to betray Christ!

In which case the Redemption would never... Hey, wait a minute!

Jesus wasn't in hiding and the Jews were determined to have Him put to death.

There was no need for Judas to betray the Son of God for Christ's crucifixion to occur.
