When a Lutheran denomination becomes radically liberal : The ELCA is not at the beginning of a slippery slope, it has slid all the way to the bottom.

ELCA pastor: "I have friends who are in wonderfully healthy poly relationships".

The Christian Church has taught for 2000 years that sexual intercourse is for one man and one woman within the bond of holy matrimony. The Church has never endorsed polyamory (having multiple sexual partners at the same time). But Pastor Clint Schneckloth, a pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, has recently posted this: "...I have friends who are in wonderfully healthy poly relationships. Mutuality, consent, health, these are critical. I don't know what I would do about a throuple seeking a church blessing or marriage. It hasn't come up. I'd probably start by learning from them."

So it appears that Pastor Schneckloth, rather than pastorally urging a "throuple" to repent of such behavior, would listen and learn from them. Schneckloth also states: "I perceive most arguments of slippery slope to arise out of unwarranted fears. I prefer to recognize that if something causes no harm then perhaps the church labeling it as sinful is misguided. If there are great benefits I can clearly perceive together with other Christians in those relationships then I tend to think bigotry has snuck into our theology under the guise of "God's will."

Pastor Schneckloth does not explain what the "great benefits" of polyamory might be, but he thinks endorsing such would not begin a slippery slope.

The ELCA is not at the beginning of a slippery slope, it has slid all the way to the bottom. The ELCA has practicing homosexual pastors and transgender pastors, and has also had two practicing homosexual bishops. The ELCA pays for abortion in its denominational healthcare plan. So why not also endorse multiple sex partners? Pastor Schneckloth is overseeing an ELCA congregation. Recently ELCA head bishop Elizabeth Eaton has written that the ELCA is not an "everything goes" church. Will the ELCA discipline Pastor Schneckloth? If not, and I am almost certain it will not, then indeed the ELCA has become the church of "anything goes."

All psychiatrists and psychologists are insane. Why not a few pastors too?

Because this is truly insane.

Yes. And for quite a few, “pastoring” has become a form of psychotherapy.

Perhaps it is safe to assume that the pastor believes in God. It is obvious that he does not believe God, because God defined marriage as being between one man and one woman. God was not ambiguous when he said it. There is nothing else to learn from anyone regardless of the nature of their relationship.

RE: Perhaps it is safe to assume that the pastor believes in God.

Most everyone wo goes to church say they believe in God. But WHAT KIND OF GOD do they believe in?

The moment they learn that this God they claim to worship gives moral commands and precepts that they find uncomfortable, they quickly create an idol of a god and worship it in order to bypass the command.

So to follow this “Pastor’s” logic: Prostitution; Drug use; Alcohol abuse; and sex children under 15 are all OK if they mutually consent and are careful about their physical health.

Has this guy actually read the Bible?

If you ever have the chance, ask a liberal pastor if he/she/it believes that Jesus of Nazareth was God Incarnate. Be prepared for the answer..

Can only imagine what Luther would have to say about the ELCA.
But am pretty sure he would NOT call it “Evangelical”, “Lutheran” or even “Church”!

Schneckloth also states: "I perceive most arguments of slippery slope to arise out of unwarranted fears.

The root of all sin is fear....
And this man is consumed by fear.... but veils it with cowardly "acceptance"

RE: Has this guy actually read the Bible?

Some questions:
On Judgment Day, will the the Lord be wishy-washy or strict?
I put my money on “strict” but merciful. The Lord is merciful but he is not stupid.

As you read your New Testament, did you catch in Hebrews 10:25ff, the idea that habitually missing worship is a willful sin and that there is no sacrifice to forgive it? Did you catch that sinning willfully is pictured as stomping on the Lord’s body, viewing the Lord’s blood as unholy and despising the Holy Spirit?

In the first parable of Matthew 25, the virgins are Christians awaiting judgment, probably after death, but in two groups: prepared and unprepared. The unprepared lack enough oil; figure out what that oil represents and why they might be unprepared.

In the second parable, the Lord gives 3 Christians an amount of money appropriate for each one’s abilities. Two WORK and double their money; they are rewarded. One, out of fear, does not work but makes sure he doesn’t lose money. Did you catch that he is condemned, called “wicked” and “lazy?” “Outer darkness, weeping, gnashing of teeth...”

In the third parable, two groups do Christian works but one is condemned, the other rewarded. Wonder why?

When I learned that the Lutheran church of my youth differed from scripture with regard to its governance (no hierarchy, elders over each congregation) and baptism (immersion only) it was time to look for the Lord’s church, the one He built on the rock.

At Corinth, there were denominations, (divisions based on names), named after Paul, Apollos, Peter and Christ. Which three did Paul condemn.

As you read, keep your antennas up to catch teaching such as “any other gospel than the one we have preached” those preachers are anathema. Not all who say, “Lord, Lord”...

I wish you happy searching for the Lord’s church — it’s a great trip. Hint: It’s not built on the rock called Peter.
