Report: Church Membership Among Catholics Declined Nearly 20% Since 2000

Washington D.C., Mar 29, 2021 / 03:51 pm MT (CNA).- The percentage of Catholics who say they are a “member” of a church has dropped by nearly 20 points since the year 2000, according to a new report by Gallup released on Monday.

Among respondents who said they were Catholic, only 58% actually said they were a member of a church. This figure is down 18 points from the 76% of Catholics who said they were a member of the Church, in a previous Gallup survey from 1998-2000.

In the past decade, Catholics saw a twice-as-steep decline in members than did Protestants, which saw a 9% decline in professed members of churches from 73% to 64%.

The report, based off a Gallup poll of more than 6,100 U.S. adults from 2018-2020, was published on Monday. Gallup says it asks Americans about their “religious attitudes and practices” twice per year.

In canon law, a baptized Catholic’s membership at a parish is conferred by territorial residence and not strictly by registration.

According to the report released on Monday, overall membership in houses of worship has continued its pre-existing decline in the U.S., reaching a record-low point of 47% in the survey conducted from 2018-2020. The figure is the lowest since Gallup began its survey in 1937, when 73% of Americans identified with a church or house of worship.

“The U.S. remains a religious nation, with more than seven in 10 affiliating with some type of organized religion,” Gallup stated. “However, far fewer, now less than half, have a formal membership with a specific house of worship.” While this could be due in part to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the report said, “continued decline in future decades seems inevitable.”

The report follows pre-existing trends of a rise in the “nones,” Americans who do......

The Vatican under the command of Pope Francis is busy rebuking ownership of firearms for personal protection to the cheers of Islamic followers as well as decrying attempting any evangelical conversion of islamists plus suppressing followers of the pre Vatican 2 liturgy form including the latin mass But when it comes to other forms of mono theistic beliefs such as the One World Abu Dhabi Movement. Francis refuses to say one word disclaiming and decrying what practice adherents of the Islam code Sharia not only claim, but truly believe that God has authorized them to any evil means using force or decption used to convert is justified as well as kill those who refuse to submit to their version of Gods will .

Folks simply won’t “feed” a church which has been turned upside down.

I am not a religious person so that I do not understand everything which you have said. I simply observe as a
peripheral curiosity. I do know that muslims are a danger to the world.

I am not being sarcastic: Does what you say disagree with what I said?

However, since they were baptized Catholic, they still are Catholics — just inactive ones at this time. They can come back at any time by just sitting down and talking with a priest.

.................................................
The Satan Council (VC-II) has achieved its mission to destroy the Church. Most of those who still adhere to their institutional affiliation are oblivious to the fact that in doing so they have actually become Protestants because the Church itself has become Protestant since it no longer teaches, governs, and sanctifies the faithful in accordance with orthodox Catholic doctrine.

That fraud masquerading as POTUS and his criminal cabal are losing “believers” by the hundreds everyday. That will become obvious in 2022 when the ‘rats and RINOs are thrown out of office by the boatload!

WRONG! Former Catholics who have left the Church and have become members of some other religion, or who reject all religion, have thereby renounced all connection to Catholicism. And to assert that they are still Catholics because of their baptism is simply irrelevant.

Nobody wants to mention homosexual priests who molest boys and men, and revulsion at the church handling of those cases. I personally know some Catholics who abandoned their faith over that issue.
