Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

In Yesterday's Meditation, we discussed a Modern-Day Acronym that stands for the "Greatest Of All Time." Without the periods between the letters though, "G.O.A.T." becomes "GOAT", which most of us decided was not complimentary at all! One Prayer Warrior even noted to me privately that he is reminded of the Judas Goat, which is an animal trained to lead its own species into the slaughterhouse.

I was also reminded of the Biblical Scapegoat, which was designated to carry all the people's sins into the wilderness. (Leviticus 16).

And yet, here in Leviticus, in today's reading, the sacrificial offering can be either a Sheep OR a Goat, as long as it is an unblemished male.

In Bible Days, the Sheep and the Goats were in one big herd. Together, they moved along in search of grazing land, and, from a distance, they all look alike. Separating them into two different herds would only cause confusion and dissent. Like in the Parable of "The Wheat and The Tares" (Matthew 13:24-30), the Master allows the good and the evil to go along together until there comes the Day that Only The Father knows. At that time, the Sheep and Goats will be separated, and interestingly enough, the Sheep will be placed to the RIGHT of the Master, and the Goats to the LEFT.

Tomorrow, we will read what Our Lord said would be the criteria for which group we will find ourselves in.
