Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin also won't talk 'with people who refuse to write on a piece of paper that the law of the Republic is superior to the law of God.'
February 18, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) -- France’s interior minister sparked anger among the growing evangelical communities in the country earlier this month when he claimed on a popular news show that “Evangelicals are a very important problem” on par with radical Islam.
Gérald Darmanin, who is in charge of policing and internal security but also of “worship” and relations with faith communities, added that the problem is “obviously not of the same nature as that of Islamism that causes terrorist attacks and deaths.”
One day earlier, on February 1, Darmanin had declared on France Inter, the main state radio station, that he would no longer agree to talk “with people who refuse to write on a piece of paper that the law of the Republic is superior to the law of God.”
While government representatives have since backpedaled to some extent regarding the “very important” evangelical “problem,” telling journalists that “community-based excesses” represent “a very small minority” among Evangelicals, the statement concerning the law of the Republic and the law of God has not been retracted, and has indeed been made in recent years by other politicians in France.

There are consequences for mocking God.
I fully expected to read he was gonna up front say it was about homosexuality ... but I suppose the law of France may just be a cover for it.
The country folk weren’t usually the problem. Where the city dwellers too frequently were even back in the day.

Yes.
I just googled the religious demographics of France. Protestants make up 2% of the population. Of that 2%, about 21% of France’s protestants identify as “Evangelical”. They’re only a “big problem” in this guy’s head.
“with people who refuse to write on a piece of paper that the law of the Republic is superior to the law of God.”

It’s shocking to the “progressives” that they cannot replace the moral dictates of the Divine with the moral dictates of man.
The French Catholics went to civil war against the Hugenots (Protestants) in the 1600’s. I wouldn’t expect most Americans to know this, but this politician surely does.
I understand the concern. Islamists will cut your head off. Evangelicals will pray for you. They are practically thhe same.
Actually reading the article my impression is he is referring to all Christian-style religions as evangelical. Apparently this new law they are talking about is going to require submission to the Republic, not God’s law.
