Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds
.
Zephaniah 2:13-15
Assyria
13 He will stretch out his hand against the north
and destroy Assyria,
leaving Nineveh utterly desolate
and dry as the desert.
14 Flocks and herds will lie down there,
creatures of every kind.
The desert owl and the screech owl
will roost on her columns.
Their hooting will echo through the windows,
rubble will fill the doorways,
the beams of cedar will be exposed.
15 This is the city of revelry
that lived in safety.
She said to herself,
“I am the one! And there is none besides me.”
What a ruin she has become,
a lair for wild beasts!
All who pass by her scoff
and shake their fists.
New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)
More from Zephaniah, this time using sheep and other animals lying down on land that was once the Great City of The Assyrians..
New International Version (NIV)

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
Our Father, Who Art In Heaven,
How Blessed and Glorious is Your Holy Name!
You Are Wonderful,
Almighty and All Knowing,
Heaven and Earth Sing of Your Glory!
There is No Place Too Deep Or Dark, Lord,
No Prison on Earth,
Or Under it,
Or Even Within The Dark Secret Places
of The Human Heart,
That You Can Not Reach.
Your Depth is Unsearchable,
Your Fountains Of Mercy Reach beyond Any Created Place or Thing.
Our Fear of You, Father is That of Reverence and Awe
Overwhelmed by Your Glory,
Overcome With Gratitude For Your Great Mercy and Love!
You Are Holy, Righteous and Just,
Yet Full of Mercy, Compassion, Forgiveness, and Love.
How Wonderful and Awesome You Are!
LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.
We Pray For Our Beloved USA
We Ask That Your People Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Psalm 84
To the leader: according to The Gittith. Of the Korahites. A Psalm.
1 How lovely is your dwelling place,
O Lord of hosts!
2 My soul longs, indeed it faints
for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh sing for joy
to the living God.
3 Even the sparrow finds a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may lay her young,
at your altars, O Lord of hosts,
my King and my God.
4 Happy are those who live in your house,
ever singing your praise.
Selah
5 Happy are those whose strength is in you,
in whose heart are the highways to Zion.*
6 As they go through the valley of Baca
they make it a place of springs;
the early rain also covers it with pools.
7 They go from strength to strength;
the God of gods will be seen in Zion.
8 O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer;
give ear, O God of Jacob!
Selah
9 Behold our shield, O God;
look on the face of your anointed.
10 For a day in your courts is better
than a thousand elsewhere.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
than live in the tents of wickedness.
11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
he bestows favour and honour.
No good thing does the Lord withhold
from those who walk uprightly.
12 O Lord of hosts,
happy is everyone who trusts in you.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
I recently saw a documentary called "The Wolves of Chernobyl". In this fascinating program, filmmakers showed how wild animals have taken up residence in the emptied buildings of Pripyat, the modern city that was abandoned after the Nuclear Disaster that poisoned the land and water. (an interesting aside: in the NIV Ukrainian Edition, the Star named "Wormwood" in Revelation 8 is translated as "Chernobyl" the Ukrainian name for the herb we call "wormwood".)
Scientists were baffled at the explosion of life in the area they had pronounced as "ruined forever". To quote the Jeff Goldblum character in Jurassic Park, "Life Finds a Way."
At one time in the not-too-distant past, the City of Detroit, Michigan, was one of the richest cities in the world. As the center of America's Automobile Industry, it was a glittering, modern city, surrounded by nice brick homes filled with employed people. The churches were full every Sunday, and the music of Detroit filled our airwaves.
Now, it is totally different. Whether the cause of Detroit's decay can be attributed to Foreign Competition, Labor Unions, Racial Issues, Corruption, or a combination of all of these, the city has become a ruin.
However, Nature abhors a vacuum, and just like the ruins of Chernobyl, the ruins of Detroit have become a haunt for wild animals, creeping back to reclaim what was once theirs. Large patches of green weeds on vacant lots look like farmland from the air.
Nineveh, like Detroit and Pripyat, was one of the greatest cities of the Ancient World. It also was full of sin and doomed itself to destruction. Zephaniah foretells this end with the image of wild animals grazing among the ruins, reclaiming what was once theirs. The Old Testament Prophets are not just about awesome poetry and religious musings, but are a fair warning to us all, of how things can change in an instant.
Let us never be complacent.

I'm very much looking forward to illustrating Jonah, although plenty still awaits to be tackled first. In the meantime, your choice of Detroit as Nineveh's modern-day counterpart is inspired. It can happen here, which prompts me to join with you in prayer: Amen!

Wow! Great discussion.
Reminds me of the judgement of Babylon in Isaiah 13:
19 Babylon, the jewel of kingdoms,
the pride and glory of the Babylonians,
will be overthrown by God
like Sodom and Gomorrah.
20 She will never be inhabited
or lived in through all generations;
there no nomads will pitch their tents,
there no shepherds will rest their flocks.
21 But desert creatures will lie there,
jackals will fill her houses;
there the owls will dwell,
and there the wild goats will leap about.
22 Hyenas will inhabit her strongholds,
jackals her luxurious palaces.
Her time is at hand,
and her days will not be prolonged.
Joining in prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and for our beloved America.
