Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds

.

Habakuk 3

Though the fig tree does not bud
    and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
    and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
    and no cattle in the stalls,
18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
    I will be joyful in God my Savior.
19 The Sovereign Lord is my strength;
    he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
    he enables me to tread on the heights.

For the director of music. On my stringed instruments.

New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)

The Minor Prophet Habakuk is a Bad News/Good News Book that concludes with a rapturous Prayer of Faith. This is the Conclusion of that Prayer.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Almighty and Everlasting Father,
How Glorious and Wonderful is Your Most Holy Name!
You Alone Are Worthy of Worship and Praise,
For You Alone Are The One True God,
Almighty and Eternal,
Glorious and Transcendent,
Rock of Ages,
Ancient of Days,
King of Kings,
and Lord of Lords!

Without You, any attempt to build our house, or our Nation, is in vain.
For in You, Father, is Our Provision,
Our Security,
Our Prosperity,
and Our Future.
We are nothing without You.

LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.

We Pray For Our Beloved USA
We Ask That Your People Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

When we looked at "Music in the Bible" on this thread, we learned a little about Hebrew Poetry and its "contrasting couplets" format. I mused that it COULD have been the origin of Borsch-Belt Comedians' "I got good news and bad news" stories and jokes. While Stand-Up can put the Good/Bad News in either order, the Bible nearly always starts with the Bad News first. THEN, there is the good News, and it's Glorious.

Many of the "Minor" Prophets ministered their predictions just prior to, and even during, the Assyrian and Babylonian Captivity. In fact, some of them are traditionally believed to be buried in tombs in what is now the country of Iraq. The writings of these Prophets reflect the desperate situations of their times. And so, as we read them, it is inevitable that we make comparisons to our own present day.

It is OK to do that, since we do live in troubled times, and The Word of God is FOREVER. It is also important to note that nearly all the Prophets teach a "Bad News/Good News" Message. Destruction is followed by Restoration. Captivity is followed by Freedom. Devastation is followed by Prosperity. And, most of all, Repentance is Followed by Salvation.

Habakkuk's grim predictions of destruction fills the first two chapters. The third chapter, though is an actual SONG, complete with musical directions. It is a song of praise, and gives the Good News. Habakkuk gives us the words of God:

“Write the vision;
make it plain on tablets,
so he may run who reads it.

3 For still the vision awaits its appointed time;
it hastens to the end—it will not lie.
If it seems slow, wait for it;
it will surely come; it will not delay.

4 “Behold, his soul is puffed up; it is not upright within him,
but the righteous shall live by his faith.(Hab 2)

My personal Devotional Reading today was Matthew 5-7. This is the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus is speaking to 1st Century Jewish People who Nation has been taken over by a world-wide evil empire that is taxing and oppressing them into poverty and misery. Their Religious leaders are bowing to the oppressors, at the cost of their spirituality. It seems like Bad News all around.

The Sermon starts out right away with contrasting Bad News/Good News couplets reminiscent of King Solomon's Proverbs. These couplets have become known as "The Beatitudes":

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4 Blessed are those who mourn,
For they shall be comforted.

5 Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.

6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
For they shall be filled.

7 Blessed are the merciful,
For they shall obtain mercy.

8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
For they shall see God.

9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.

10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. (NKJV)

As you may already know, my "Word For 2021" is PATIENCE. (Why did I have to go and pick THAT one?) I think God is trying to teach me something.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America!

Amen !!! <><

Psalm 6

To the leader: with stringed instruments; according to The Sheminith. A Psalm of David.

1 O Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger,
or discipline me in your wrath.
2 Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing;
O Lord, heal me, for my bones are shaking with terror.
3 My soul also is struck with terror,
while you, O Lord—how long?

4 Turn, O Lord, save my life;
deliver me for the sake of your steadfast love.
5 For in death there is no remembrance of you;
in Sheol who can give you praise?

6 I am weary with my moaning;
every night I flood my bed with tears;
I drench my couch with my weeping.
7 My eyes waste away because of grief;
they grow weak because of all my foes.

8 Depart from me, all you workers of evil,
for the Lord has heard the sound of my weeping.
9 The Lord has heard my supplication;
the Lord accepts my prayer.
10 All my enemies shall be ashamed and struck with terror;
they shall turn back, and in a moment be put to shame.

"the righteous shall live by his faith."

I've read that it was when Martin Luther read this by Habakkuk that the lightbulb came on for him.

I'm so very glad for everyone for whom that same lightbulb is now lit, and I add my prayers for everyone's peace that you've listed.
