In announcing the designation of Cuba Jan. 11, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said it has provided “support for acts of international terrorism in granting safe harbor to terrorists.”
WASHINGTON — The US bishops’ chair for international justice and peace has expressed his disagreement with the State Department’s return of Cuba to a list of state sponsors of terrorism.
The decision was based in part on Cuba’s provision of haven to Colombian rebel leaders and fugitives from US justice, as well as Cuba’s support of Nicolas Maduro, the disputed president of Venezuela, who is not recognized by the US.
“As Chairman of the USCCB Committee on International Justice and Peace, I would like to express my profound disagreement with Secretary Pompeo's decision to add Cuba to the list of state sponsors of terrorism,” Bishop David Malloy of Rockford said Jan. 12.

Why is Puerto Rico our responsibility/burden, and Cuba is not? It’s right there! It could even be the southernmost 5 counties of Florida! Sigh. Hindsight is 50/50 (Pat Dye reference), I suppose. Even back then, conservatism didn’t know how to wield power. I guess we got the relatively conservative overall expats, so there’s that.

I would think Bishops (and Bishop organizations) would have better things to do with their time than to involve themselves in political machinations especially in regards to communist countries with a history of human rights abuses. but that’s just me. We do after all read a different version of the Bible.
The should watch all the infrared videos of Cuban soldiers pulling swimmers out of the water in Guantanamo, then unceremoniously beat them to death with their rifles on the decks of patrol boats.
Yes, the Marines tape them. Yes, the videos go back for.........decades.
This “bishop” is a product of Rembert Weakland’s seminaries. He served in positions at Pakistan, Syria, and the UN.

In another month, these same bishops will be praising and thanking “President” Biden for removing Cuba from the sponsors of terrorism list, at the bequest of his owners, Red China.
