Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds
.
Matthew 12
Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath
12 At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick some heads of grain and eat them. 2 When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, “Look! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath.”
3 He answered, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? 4 He entered the house of God, and he and his companions ate the consecrated bread—which was not lawful for them to do, but only for the priests. 5 Or haven’t you read in the Law that the priests on Sabbath duty in the temple desecrate the Sabbath and yet are innocent? 6 I tell you that something greater than the temple is here. 7 If you had known what these words mean, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’[a] you would not have condemned the innocent. 8 For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”
9 Going on from that place, he went into their synagogue, 10 and a man with a shriveled hand was there. Looking for a reason to bring charges against Jesus, they asked him, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”
11 He said to them, “If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out? 12 How much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”
13 Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out and it was completely restored, just as sound as the other. 14 But the Pharisees went out and plotted how they might kill Jesus.
New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)
Much of the New Testament takes place in the city, rather than the desert. Yet, the people know all about lambs, sheep, and shepherds.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
In His teaching on The Sabbath, Jesus used two examples. The first example was from the Scriptures, when David was on the run from Saul, and he and his men ate consecrated bread in order to survive.
The second example Jesus gives is that of a sheep stuck in a pit, on a day that happens to be The Sabbath. Would a shepherd, no matter how pious and law-abiding, allow that sheep to perish because it was against the Law to work on the Sabbath? Of course not! Some things you have to do when the need arises. It's just common sense.
But, of course, common sense is in short supply these days!
Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.
"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

Psalm 112
1 Praise the Lord!
Happy are those who fear the Lord,
who greatly delight in his commandments.
2 Their descendants will be mighty in the land;
the generation of the upright will be blessed.
3 Wealth and riches are in their houses,
and their righteousness endures for ever.
4 They rise in the darkness as a light for the upright;
they are gracious, merciful, and righteous.
5 It is well with those who deal generously and lend,
who conduct their affairs with justice.
6 For the righteous will never be moved;
they will be remembered for ever.
7 They are not afraid of evil tidings;
their hearts are firm, secure in the Lord.
8 Their hearts are steady, they will not be afraid;
in the end they will look in triumph on their foes.
9 They have distributed freely, they have given to the poor;their righteousness endures for ever;
their horn is exalted in honor.
10 The wicked see it and are angry;
they gnash their teeth and melt away;
the desire of the wicked comes to nothing.

Thank you greatly, Mary-Lou, for your persistence in cattle-prodding us to pray for Jerusalem's peace. I hereby append my official, uncoerced Amen!
Much of the New Testament takes place in the city, rather than the desert. Yet, the people know all about lambs, sheep, and shepherds.
True then, so much less so now! He whom I consider is demonstrably the wisest Christian apologist and evangelist, Hugh Ross, argues convincingly that the rising incidence of agnosticism/atheism in today's increasingly urbanized world is directly related to those urbanites' greatly reduced exposure to the testimony for God present in His creation. The stars are barely visible in those cities, and fauna is limited to parakeets, housecats and little dogs they dress up.
