Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds
.
Amos 1
1 The words of Amos, one of the shepherds of Tekoa—the vision he saw concerning Israel two years before the earthquake, when Uzziah was king of Judah and Jeroboam son of Jehoash[a] was king of Israel.
2 He said:
“The Lord roars from Zion
and thunders from Jerusalem;
the pastures of the shepherds dry up,
and the top of Carmel withers.”
New International Version (NIV)(End of Scripture Passage)
The Prophet Amos actually was a Shepherd when he was called into the prophetic Ministry.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Our Father in Heaven,
Magnified and Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!
For You Alone Are Worthy,
You Alone Are LORD,
You Alone Are The One True God of Abraham!
We Come into Your Presence With Singing
And Into Your Courts With Praise,
For You Are Eternal,
Omnipotent,
And Righteous,
Our Creator,
and The Creator of All That Is!
It Is You That Commands Nature and All It Contains,
The Earth is Yours,
and All of It's Creatures.
You can make them Swarm or Die off;
It Is Your Call.
Even the dust of the earth is at Your Command!
LORD, We Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Beseech You on Behalf of Our Captive Brethren,
Christians and Jews,
In Bondage in Hostile lands.
We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Several weeks ago, the Pastor of our church passed out little journal-type blank books with a photocopied chart. It was for a Bible-Reading-Program that would guide the reader through the entire Bible in a year. It was so similar to my own "Super-Eight" Reading Program that I was instantly validated.
"Oh Cool! When do we start?"
"Not Yet. Not until the New Year." said the Pastor's Wife.
So, OK, I thought. I'll just keep doing my "Super-Eight" and when we start the program, I will integrate into my own program. But then I noticed that New Years Day fell on a Friday, and the Reading Program (Romans 1,2) started on a SUNDAY!
"So, when do we actually start this?" I asked. "The 1st is on a FRIDAY!"
"I know," said the Pastor's Wife, "but we're starting the program on Sunday, the 3rd."
Meanwhile, I was busy looking up all the "Old Hymns", getting the lyrics and chords. After doing all this work, I was informed that Sunday Morning Services would be Contemporary. Having been out of that milieu for many years meant I was going to have to learn all new music. It would be a challenge, but I knew I could do it. Meanwhile, what about all these old Hymns I had laboriously collected? Oh Well.
Then, the Pastor announced a wonderful meditation to take each individual through the entire year. Pray that the Lord give you ONE word. Then, allow the Lord to lead you in prayer and meditation throughout the year based upon that one word. OK...I needed a WORD to have by 1/1/21. The pastor said his word last year was "Contentment". That was a good one. Maybe I could use that! I could see that it would perhaps be edifying to me. Then the Pastor said that his NEW word for 2021 was "Seek" as in "Seek the Lord". Well that was even better than contentment, so maybe I could use that one. But I still didn't have my OWN. Oh Well.
Just a few days ago the pastor asked me to lead Worship for the Wednesday Morning Prayer Group. This was made up mostly of Senior Citizens who don't like to drive at night in the winter.
"There's only one problem," said the Pastor. The Senior Citizens only like The Old Hymns. Do you know any of THOSE?"
Huzzah! :-)
This morning as I was doing my own Devotional Reading, the Lord FINALLY gave me my Word for the Year:
PATIENCE.
Today's "Minor" Prophet is Amos, the Shepherd. Being a Shepherd requires hours of patience punctuated by moments of sheer terror and valor. A true Shepherd has to be ready for lions, bears, wolves, coyotes, human thieves, and maybe even impatient piano players. When Jesus spoke of The Good Shepherd, He wasn't just referring to the stereotypical pastoral scene of the Shepherd holding a baby lamb in His arms. (I think every Sunday School has that picture on the wall!) That very Shepherd had to protect the ewes when those baby lambs were being born, maybe fighting off a wolf, a bear, or even a disgruntled ram. He had to make sure his flock got enough water and grazing, going further and further into the wilderness for fresh pasture. His staff not only led and guided the sheep, but sometimes had to be a weapon. One may think a shepherd to be not a great candidate for the office of Prophet, or even that of a King, but, as we have learned, it comes with a skill-set that works admirably in those occupations!

Psalm 26
Of David.
1 Vindicate me, O Lord,
for I have walked in my integrity,
and I have trusted in the Lord without wavering.
2 Prove me, O Lord, and try me;
test my heart and mind.
3 For your steadfast love is before my eyes,
and I walk in faithfulness to you.*
4 I do not sit with the worthless,
nor do I consort with hypocrites;
5 I hate the company of evildoers,
and will not sit with the wicked.
6 I wash my hands in innocence,
and go around your altar, O Lord,
7 singing aloud a song of thanksgiving,
and telling all your wondrous deeds.
8 O Lord, I love the house in which you dwell,
and the place where your glory abides.
9 Do not sweep me away with sinners,
nor my life with the bloodthirsty,
10 those in whose hands are evil devices,
and whose right hands are full of bribes.
11 But as for me, I walk in my integrity;
redeem me, and be gracious to me.
12 My foot stands on level ground;
in the great congregation I will bless the Lord.

I'm immersed in illustrating Job, so your new word resonates with me.
Regarding this incisive portion of your excellent prayer:
It Is You That Commands Nature and All It Contains,
The Earth is Yours,
and All of It's Creatures.
You can make them Swarm or Die off You remind me of Psalm 104, full of wonders including:
All creatures look to you
to give them their food at the proper time.
When you give it to them, they gather it up;
when you open your hand,
they are satisfied with good things.
When you hide your face,
they are terrified;
when you take away their breath,
they die and return to the dust.
When you send your Spirit,
they are created,
and you renew the face of the ground.
