Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

Lambs, Sheep, and Shepherds
.
Psalm 75
For the director of music. To the tune of “Do Not Destroy.” A psalm of Asaph. A song.
1 We praise you, God,
we praise you, for your Name is near;
people tell of your wonderful deeds.
2 You say, “I choose the appointed time;
it is I who judge with equity.
3 When the earth and all its people quake,
it is I who hold its pillars firm.[b]
4 To the arrogant I say, ‘Boast no more,’
and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horns.[c]
5 Do not lift your horns against heaven;
do not speak so defiantly.’”
6 No one from the east or the west
or from the desert can exalt themselves.
7 It is God who judges:
He brings one down, he exalts another.
8 In the hand of the Lord is a cup
full of foaming wine mixed with spices;
he pours it out, and all the wicked of the earth
drink it down to its very dregs.
9 As for me, I will declare this forever;
I will sing praise to the God of Jacob,
10 who says, “I will cut off the horns of all the wicked,
but the horns of the righteous will be lifted up.”
Footnotes

Lord God, let us also continue, in the US, to protect, defend and be a blessing to Israel, Jerusalem, and all Your Jewish folk everywhere, that we may be blessed in return, according to Genesis 12:3:
” And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.”
In Jesus’ Name, amen.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem

In what used to be an appliance store, a cozy little bistro opened up around the end of 2019. With an excellent chef, imaginative menu, and lovely dining room, the "Three Brothers" offered a perfect venue for a "First Date" or other special occasion. They even had live music, and members of our music community looked forward to doing a solo or duo gig there.
When the China Virus hit, they spent a fortune building a large outdoor deck, strung it with lights, and continued providing their unique dining experience. That worked up until November...and now it's FREEZING around here! So, dining had to be moved into the Bar, because the Dining Room is still closed. And, of course, in New England, Bars are festooned with Televisions, one after the other, showing Sports. The other night, my sister and B-I-L went out to eat there, and enjoyed our lovely meal (served with cloth napkins and real dinnerware) under the baleful gaze of a 70" TV showing a football game. The uniforms of the New England Patriots were instantly recognizable, but the opposing team had the ugliest YELLOW pants I had ever seen, clashing horribly with a sky-blue jersey and a goofy cartoon lightening-bolt on their helmets. The caption said they were from Los Angeles. I thought that LA's team was called The "Rams". The mystery was solved when my sister entered the info on her smart phone and discerned that the Yellow-Pants team were the LA Chargers (hence the lightening-bolt). The Rams were playing a different game which was on another TV (of the 50 or so TV's around the bar) and I quickly noticed their distinctive helmets with the Ram's Horn curled over the ears. The helmet design conveyed a message of power, strength, masculinity, and courage. (And I'm not even a football fan!) The Rams were not playing a team that I recognized, but the design of their helmets made them look better on TV.
Anyone who knows anything about sheep knows that they are not all cute and cuddly. The males (Rams) are equipped with those horns for a reason.They butt their rivals in the head (illegal in football) to get mating rights with the most females as possible. The winner assures the health and strength of the flock by being the toughest, most aggressive Ram on the block.
Hence, the Ram's Horn in the Bible is a symbol of Power. This could be National or Religious. The Ram's Horn opens the Liturgical Year at Rosh Hashana, and accompanied the Israelites into battle. The Altar in the Temple had a horn on each corner, symbolizing the Power of God. "Clinging to the Horns of the Altar" was a way of seeking God's protection.
We had a good laugh about the Chargers' Yellow Pants, but colors and symbols really DO convey meaning. The symbol of the Ram's Horn was either a lucky break for the LA Team, or the product of a brilliant graphic designer.
Anyway, the Pats were winning, the food was good, and it didn't cost too much. I am looking forward to the dining room opening up.... someday.

Psalm 72
Of Solomon.
1 Give the king your justice, O God,
and your righteousness to a king’s son.
2 May he judge your people with righteousness,
and your poor with justice.
3 May the mountains yield prosperity for the people,
and the hills, in righteousness.
4 May he defend the cause of the poor of the people,
give deliverance to the needy,
and crush the oppressor.
5 May he live* while the sun endures,
and as long as the moon, throughout all generations.
6 May he be like rain that falls on the mown grass,
like showers that water the earth.
7 In his days may righteousness flourish
and peace abound, until the moon is no more.
8 May he have dominion from sea to sea,
and from the River to the ends of the earth.
9 May his foes* bow down before him,
and his enemies lick the dust.
10 May the kings of Tarshish and of the isles
render him tribute,
may the kings of Sheba and Seba
bring gifts.
11 May all kings fall down before him,
all nations give him service.
12 For he delivers the needy when they call,
the poor and those who have no helper.
13 He has pity on the weak and the needy,
and saves the lives of the needy.
14 From oppression and violence he redeems their life;
and precious is their blood in his sight.
15 Long may he live!
May gold of Sheba be given to him.
May prayer be made for him continually,
and blessings invoked for him all day long.
16 May there be abundance of grain in the land;
may it wave on the tops of the mountains;
may its fruit be like Lebanon;
and may people blossom in the cities
like the grass of the field.
17 May his name endure for ever,
his fame continue as long as the sun.
May all nations be blessed in him;*
may they pronounce him happy.
18 Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
who alone does wondrous things.
19 Blessed be his glorious name for ever;
may his glory fill the whole earth.Amen and Amen.
20 The prayers of David son of Jesse are ended.

I was a total LA Rams fan, even a season-ticket holder, in the '60s,
until their murderess (and murderous) owner moved them away.
Now I'm a total Jesus fan, even an eternity-ticket holder, since the '70s,
and the Life-Giver will never leave me nor forsake me.

I didn't see that part, but the Pats have been pretty good about that. Believe me, I would have preferred the Quiet Dining Room to the bar.
