“So what? The book of Hebrews makes clear the days of sacrifices are over. Progressive revelation doesnt go backwards.”
However, it is interesting that the very Law/Bible that Jesus believed in, and said not to change (”For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.” Matthew 5:18) was, in fact, changed by the very addition of the entirety of the Christian Bible (which you call the New Testament) by his followers.
Just so that you are aware of this, here’s at least part of the reason why Jesus said that not one jot or tittle of “the Law” (i.e. the Law as passed down to Moses at Mr. Sinai) would change - as written in that very Law itself (quotes taken from https://www.chabad.org/library/bible_cdo/aid/63255/jewish/The-Bible-with-Rashi.htm):
Deuteronomy 4:2 -
“Do not add to the word which I command you, nor diminish from it, to observe the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.”
Deuteronomy 13:1 -
“Everything I command you that you shall be careful to do it. You shall neither add to it, nor subtract from it.”
So, when the Hebrew Bible says that when there is a Temple, that the Kohanim are to bring sacrifices in a certain manner and at the appointed times, not only will the sacrifices be brought, but they will be brought in the exact manner required, and at the appointed time, under the Law. Part of what is necessary to do that is to sacrifice a red heifer - and that’s why this entire post exists.
And God has imposed a price for that.
Spot on post!
Thank you very much!
