Ave Maria sung in Latin at the RNC
Ave Maria Sung at White House ^ | August 28, 2020 | Christopher Macchio

As the Republican National Convention wrapped up last night, an amazing thing happened. Schubert's Ave Maria was sung in Latin by opera singer, Christopher Macchio. It was a beautiful moment.

This was a master-stroke by Trump, likely suggested by Melania. I have posted it on some Catholic F-Book groups and it is being shared like wildfire. If you missed it, have a listen.

“Some people” prefer not to blaspheme. But that’s just me; feel free to go ahead. Free country.

It is indeed. I recognize your right to say foolishly anti-Catholic things. It's part of what makes America great.

I think you're right. This convention broke the mould and a more tele-convention is what we'll see from now on. And that's a nature fit for our on-line society.

Thanks for the link to Reagan's acceptance speech. I'm going to enjoy listening to that.

You know who has one of the greatest pure voices in politics? Mike Pence. He could easily be a narrator on the History channel or something.

Reagan was a great speech maker. But Trump has transformed speech-making into a more interactive deal. At his rallies, he plays to his audience and it feels more conversational.

During the 2016 campaign I submitted a vanity that contrast's Trump's style with Reagan's and other politicians:

“But many of those speeches were boring as all get out.”

Were boring? :-)

They are STILL boring.
Not one politician came even close to moving me than did ALL of the “deplorable” Americans we heard on stage last night.

and though this will probably earn me a beatin’;
POTUS’ final speech would have been better if shortened a bit. Too much “rally talk”. But who am I to say? He’s the pro and must have had something he wished to say that had not been stated before. Perhaps in doing what he did was an effort to show the difference in the two party’s conventions (as this was what put us to sleep in the past).

Keep praying for America!

Lutheran here,mostly. No, I don’t pray to Mary.
THe presentation of Ave Maria was awesome, spirit filling, moving. and i know that in Heaven, my great aunt Sister Mary Luke, SIster of the Franciscan Poor, was smiling joyously.
I’m certain that it was a gift from Trump to his wife, and that we all were able to enjoy. Even if you are not Catholic.

The President’s speech was a bit repetitive, but when you figure he was going for delivering the longest speech to contrast with Plugs delivering the shortest speech, it makes sense.

LOL! Knew he had his reasons. By evening’s end, an empty vessel was seen if looking in this direction. The entire broadcast had manage to drain all moisture in the form of tears; and the eyes, after seeing something never seen before, they were used twice as much. :-)

WHAT! an evening.

Uh . . . Brilliant if the object is to sway Catholic voters. I would imagine that it did.

They will be singing the Communist Internationale. I’m sure these idiots in the streets don’t know the words, but George Soros and the DNC will teach them.

Cool thing about the “Nessun Dorma”— it ends (roughly) “at dawn— in the morning— I will win!”

Is Melania Catholic? It wasn’t a gift to Melania. It was a gift to Catholics and a reminder abortion is wrong. Mary a young, unwed mother trusted God and gave birth to a son. We haven’t been able to attend mass for months. No singing allowed.

It seems pretty obvious that without Mary and without her yes, there is no Jesus.

I would think that Jesus would be quite happy to see his mother honored.

Translation of Ave Maria, a prayer Catholics say daily:

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is thee;
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

I was struggling to stay awake, here on the East Coast. But look, you’re alresdy a fan and have probably heard him speak many times before, so it lacked the same impact as it would have for someone less familiar with his accomplishments and style. I think he was going for the undecideds, the #walkaways—anybody who may not have been paying attention to him before.

I agree—he was appealing to the Catholic voter. That said, I don’t think the choice of Ave Maria was entirely cynical; it may have been suggested by Melania, with her elegant European tastes.
