Skip to comments. Are evangelicals changing their minds about same-sex relationships?

Two reports caught my eye this week.
One: In 2007, 90 percent of evangelicals said their church forbid (63 percent) or strongly discouraged (27 percent) homosexual behaviors. In 2020, that figure has dropped to 65 percent (33.7 percent forbid, while 31.4 percent strongly discourage).
Two: In 2008, 34.4 percent of evangelicals between the ages of eighteen and thirty-five supported same-sex marriage. In 2018, that figure had risen to 56.1 percent.
Could this data be related? Are evangelical churches changing their position on same-sex marriage to align with and attract younger adults? Are younger evangelicals changing their position on same-sex marriage because their churches are? Or are both happening?
When perception is reality
For twenty centuries, orthodox Christians have known that the Bible forbids same-sex sexual relations. (For more, see my website paper, What does the Bible say about homosexuality?)
However, as we noted yesterday, we currently live in a post-truth culture that is convinced perception is reality and truth is whatever you believe it to be. Tolerance is the cardinal value of our day, while intolerance is the cardinal sin.
This insistence on relative truth and subjective morality directly contradicts the fact that all Scripture is inspired by God (2 Timothy 3:16) through the work of the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21) as unchanging truth (Matthew 24:35). Jesus was clear when he told his Father, Your word is truth (John 17:17).
Perversion will never be “normal.” Perverts will never be satisfied.
I haven’t changed my mind.
Many so called Christians just don’t believe the whole Bible is Gods word. Isn’t that what happened in Eden? Did God really say?.....
What part of cannot enter the Kingdom of God did you miss, but in that regard, it is in the same boat as adulatory and alcoholism
Saw the headline.
Knew it must be Christian Post.
Didn’t read one word.
Posted this reply.
So, what “evangelicals” got polled?
So, since you didn’t read the article, what do you think is the answer to the question?
Unfortunately for many, which are going to be in for a big surprise of judgement day, God law doesn’t change just because a majority of Christians wanted to “get with the times and be liked by their liberal friends”.
None that I know, and certainly not me.
I just heard on OAN that Dims are “changing their minds on abortion.”
They want some pro-life voices
I believe THAT as much as I believe THIS.
It’s ALL about the ELECTION.
Who are we to deny them their joy? It’s not like we throw them off buildings.
God created me with a fair skin- I except how God created me.
God drank wine- I'm good with that
God ate meat- I'm good with that
God created woman for man- I'm good with that
Welcome to the Apostasy, we hope your enjoy the show.
It’ll be alright until you are launched into eternity and are bound before a great throne room while embracing an abomination unto the LORD.
The end of the show is being alone without a valid defense in front of a judge who knows all of the facts of your case.
Me either, I have not, nor will.
I don't think the Bible speaks of such stuff specifically, but it does speak of a Strong Delusion.
Evangelicals may be changing their minds, but Christians haven’t.
The era of Evangelicals holding the line on Christian doctrine against the winds of progressivism are long gone.
The evangelical claim to legitimacy is based on its professed adherence to Biblical teachings and norms. Support for same-sex marriage is a clear rejection of Biblical norms, and any evangelicalism that goes down that road has lost its legitimacy.
