Synod votes to throw out more cautious 2045 net-zero target
THE General Synod on Wednesday set a 2030 target for net zero carbon emissions for the Church of England, rejecting the recommended target of 2045.
Members of the Synod voted narrowly for the more radical proposal for the C of E to be carbon-neutral in just ten years time. The proposal came in an amendment by Canon Professor Martin Gainsborough (Bristol), carried by 144 votes to 129, with ten abstentions.
Canon Gainsborough said that he wanted to push the Church harder. His diocese had already committed itself to the 2030 date.
The seriousness of the situation facing the earth could not be overstated, he said, especially across the world, away from the UK. He argued that there were theological reasons for the move as well. Christianity was about sacrificial life: Faith is risky.
Canon Gainsborough admitted: There are challenges, but lets not overestimate them. The target of being net zero by 2045 was not acceptable. There is nothing more important than this.
The Bishop of Salisbury, the Rt Revd Nicholas Holtam, the C of Es lead bishop on the environment, resisted the amendment to his original motion, arguing that 2045 was five years ahead of both the Paris Agreement and the Churchs earlier goal. He feared that pushing parishes around the country to be net zero by 2030 would cause resentment.

Meaningless twaddle. But I guess it’s good to see the denomination show some sort of belief... Right... Ok whatever.
Just yesterday, I was wondering when the C of E would be carbon neutral.

Mother Earth is not only called Pachamama. As a look into the Internet shows, she is also worshiped worldwide under a different name.
Gaia, you! Bearer, Beloved, Nurturer, Divine. Oh, You Mother of all Being, You our Earth. Holy is Your wisdom. Holy Thy Being. Holy Thy Nature. Holy Thy Perfection. Holy Thy Heart. Holy Your Source... (retrieved www.myananda.de, 17 February 2020)
A new goddess? Mother Earth a cult object? Here, for Christians, some questions are due with regard to God’s Word.

The RCC leadership ought to be caring for the flock. THAT IS THEIR JOB. Instead they play politics with the devil.

“Canon Gainsborough said that he wanted to push the Church harder.”
How about we cut off your oxygen and CO2 next week you handjob?
Considering the rapid decline of the Church of England, they might make that goal without even trying.
How does a church go carbon-neutral anyway? No more candles and incense?
Carbon neutered???
If an organization ceases to exist, has it become carbon neutral?
It seems like environmentalists strategy is to make the US non-existent... and therefore carbon problem solved.
There is no proof that carbon dioxide levels have anything to do with changing world temperatures. The reason for world temperature change is the sun, which influences our temperatures 2500 times more than anything man can do.
Makes sense in a way. It’s a religious aspiration of sorts.
I will be carbon-neutral by 2190.
Good question.
I have another question: WHY?
That too.
On the subject of Church and State mingling......C of E, how is this much different than Christian churches in the US registering with the government as 501c3 corporations and being controlled with what they can preach, eventually provide medical coverage (abortions), and homosexual marriages? The biggest faux paux in the history of US churches and preachers was this tax exempt filing. It KILLED the church.
[[net zero carbon emissions for the Church of England,]]
Darn, no more bean dip for church social gatherings then huh?
oh never mind, that is methane- carry on-
Church of the Frozen Chosen.
Ironic since God made us Carbon-based creatures...
