* Santiago's Plaza Italia has been used for three weeks as the main gathering site for the mass demonstrations

* But yesterday the protest escalated as a hooded group began to loot the La Asuncion church in the area

* Church pews, pianos, religious paintings and iconography were all carried out of the door and set alight

* Nationwide protests, which have a range of demands, have so far left 20 dead and a further 2,500 injured

Demonstrators have started looting churches in Chile as the long-running protests continue.

Thousands of people had gathered near the site in Santiago's Plaza Italia that has been used for three weeks as the main site of the mass protests.

The crowd chanted, carried banners and waved Chilean national flags as others flashed the lights on their mobile phones.

But a short time later the protests escalated as a large group of hooded protestors dressed in black began to loot a church in the area known as La Asuncion.

They were photographed dragging church pews, statues of Jesus, religious canvasses and other iconography out through the doors of the historic building before setting much of it on fire.

Smoke was also seen billowing from the nearby headquarters of Pedro de Valdivia University, although it is not known if the protestors had also ignited that blaze as authorities said they are still investigating the cause.

Yeah, probably just a coincidence. These people aren't going to do harm to their places of worship.

Get rid of President Trump and elect one of Pelosi’s pets as Potus, and we will be seeing the same thing in America.

The democrat mayors and their left wing police will stand back and watch our churches burned by their voters.

I do not know anything about the Chilean protests, but since Antifa seems to be involved, it looks like a violent Communist takeover is in the works.

It is interesting that as a worldwide movement to take back government for and by the people is gaining strength, the forces of violent Communism are also rising up. I wonder what is behind all of this.

I love how the Spanish Anarchists, Socialists and Communists morphed into “Republicans”.

They never wanted a real Republic.

Chile was always big on protests, even though economically they have been very fortunate for a Latin American country. Maybe expectations are higher there than in other countries in the region. Maybe there’s more to fight over. Or maybe they didn’t truly hit bottom economically, so they didn’t have to refocus their energies. The country’s history has been tragic in other ways, though.

While everyone seems to know that Hitler & Mussolini came to Franco’s side in the Civil War, Stalin and world-wide Communists’ aid to the ‘Republicans’ is usually kept quiet.
