October 23 - Physical Resurrection

“‘Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice, and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment’” (John 5:28–29).

The unbelieving Jews were astonished and outraged at Jesus’ bold claim to be the giver of spiritual life and the ultimate judge of all men. But then Jesus revealed another truth that astounded them: He would one day raise the dead from their graves. As He did with the spiritual resurrection (v. 25), Jesus said that the hour of physical resurrection is coming. The resurrection of “all who are in the tombs” is still future. At that time, the souls of the righteous dead, now in heaven with the Lord (2 Cor. 5:6–8), and of the wicked dead, now in torment in Hades (Luke 16:22–23), will be given resurrected bodies fit for eternity.

The final resurrection will usher believers into the glories of eternal life, and bring unbelievers to the endless suffering of eternal judgment. By characterizing believers as “those who did the good deeds” and unbelievers as “those who committed the evil deeds,” Jesus was not teaching that salvation is by works. Throughout His ministry, Jesus clearly taught that salvation “is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent” (6:29). Good works are simply the evidence of salvation. Those who believe in the Son will as a result do “good deeds” (3:21; Eph. 2:10; James 2:14–20), while those who reject the Son will be characterized by “evil deeds.”

Ask Yourself

How does the reality of a physical resurrection help deflect the disappointment you feel when you notice those tell tale signs of aging and bodily decay? How do you balance the biblical stewardship of healthy living with the assurance that these temporary dwellings are destined for replacement?

“Good works are simply the evidence of salvation. “

People ya’ll claim to be not saved also do good works.
How do you tell real good works from false good works?

There is not much mystery here if you read The Holy Bible. When Christ ascended into heaven with some 5oo people watching there were two angles as recorded in Luke 1:9. The two angles asked the gathered people why they marveled, didn’t they know that Christ would return in the same way at some future time.

Christ said over and over that if we follow Him we would be joint inheritors with Him in His Fathers kingdom, that we would be like Him.

When Christ appeared to His Apostles the apostles assumed they were seeing a ghost, after all they had seen Him dead. Christ understood what they thought and told them to touch Him, feel the print of the nails and the scar in His side. He had them bring Him food to eat to show them that He was real, flesh and bone.

When God made Adam and Eve and then Adam and Eve had a son the book of Genesis tell us that Able was in the image of Adam as Adam was in the Image of God.

God is not some endless expanse of vapor or spirit, He is a real being much like us except His body has been perfected as ours will be some day.

As in Adam all die, so in Christ are all made alive.

It is telling in my opinion that the Apostles that saw the resurrected Jesus Christ had no fear of death. They saw and knew what it was all about. I don’t think any of them were anxious to leave this life but they all knew the score about what would happen to them.

During the time between the death of Christ on the cross and His resurrection He is said to have preached to the spirits in prison, to me that means we continue in life immediately after physical death to await the reunification of our spirits to our bodies, just like the saints that in Jesus’s time died before Jesus but their graves were opened and they walked among the city of Jerusalem on Resurrection morning. They weren’t ghosts.

Oh happy day!

We believers don’t have to know what the motive behind good works is. That will be judged by God, for He knows what is in ones heart.

Yup, people who are not saved can do what we call good works.

No doubt about it.

It’s not our job to sit in that kind of judgment of other’s works because God knows the heart and knows which works are a result of faith and which aren’t.

Agreed. That being said, without faith, it is impossible to please God. (Hebrews 11:6)

You spittled out, "God is not some endless expanse of vapor or spirit, He is a real being much like us except His body has been perfected as ours will be some day."

Paraphrasing the blasphemous Lorenzo Snow couplet doesn't remove the heresy. You are a false teacher. The Moronic Mormonic is strong with you. God The Father Almighty was never a man who had to earn godhood. The Creator of the Universe and all that is within it was never a man working to earn god status. JESUS told you that God is Spirit and must be worshipped in spirit and truth. Stop posting contradictions to The Word of God.

Please don't put words or ideas into my mouth. I never said what God was except that the Son of God was resurrected as flesh and bone. We do certainly worship in spirit, but you are flesh bone and blood, you don't turn yourself into spirit to worship. There is no contradiction. We who are flesh and blood must worship in spirit. That is how we communicate here with The Holy Ghost who is only Spirit. Our spirit communicates with Him.

What I'm talking about has nothing to do with Mormon or any other doctrine other than what was common for the first 200 years after the Crucifixion. It was only after the leaders of the church became more highly educated mostly from the Greeks that these other doctrines crept into The Gospel. Then when a Greek bishop presented his vision of the doctrines of the church especially of The Trinity at the council of Nicaea that Constantine decided this would be the universal doctrine of the church. Constantine was not even a Christian, yet he decided. That view of The Trinity was not nearly universal.

Over and over again, Christ and the Apostles have told us that we must, we will become like Him. Him as He who ascended with some 500 watching and being told this is how he will come back. He didn't go to Heaven and throw His body away, no I believe as those who knew Him not as those who never knew Him but supposed what must be so from their educations.

People like Pope Francis who are turning the church on it's head because of their educations, they know better than us. Not hardly. The Apostles were not terribly educated men but they communicated with The Lord.

We need leaders in the church who know and love the Lord Jesus Christ, not those who have learned about him in seminary but have never known Him. Seminaries make doctrines that only they can understand to hold themselves in high positions just like the Pharisees and Sadducee's of old. I know who my Savior is, He allows me to speak to Him via my spirit. I don't change into a ghost when I pray any more than He has to turn into a ghost to hear what the Holy Ghost tells Him I said. Do you think you will wait until you are dead to the flesh and only then worship Him, what nonsense.

Spin and spin some more. You wrote, “God is not some endless expanse of vapor or spirit,”. YOU contradict what JESUS told us, that God IS Spirit and must be worshipped in spirit and truth. You are a false teacher.

Nice backpedaling but you did NOT say that the Son of God was resurrected as flesh and bone.

You DID say this in post 4 "God is not some endless expanse of vapor or spirit, He is a real being much like us except His body has been perfected as ours will be some day."

Which is Biblically untrue.

God IS spirit and by saying that His body was perfected implies that at one point it wasn't.

God was not an imperfect being that attained godhood as Mormonism claims we will some day.

That is outright blasphemy. The Mormon god is NOT the God of the Bible, not even close. Jesus is NOT the half-brother of Satan/Lucifer.

We are not going to be perfected some day in these bodies.

If you are believing lies of Mormonism and hold to these beliefs, since they representing the God or Jesus as presented in Scripture, then you cannot be saved.

That's part of it.

The resurrection is something the New Testament spends a lot of time talking about. It's a lot more than just a thing that happens when Jesus comes back. It's a lot more than just reanimation.

And Jesus said to them, “The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage, but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage, for they cannot die anymore, because they are equal to angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection. But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the passage about the bush, where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. Now he is not God of the dead, but of the living, for all live to him.” Then some of the scribes answered, “Teacher, you have spoken well.” For they no longer dared to ask him any question.

NOOOooo!!!!

Haven't we ALL been taught that the 'good guys' are in Heaven already??

Have we been lying to the grandkids at Gramma's funeral when we tell them, "She's in a better place now."?

It hasn’t occurred to you yet that you are misunderstanding the passage. EVERYONE who has lived since Adam will have a physical body existing in a spacetime coordinate system different from our present coordinate system. That body will be incorruptible, existing in the Hell spoken of in the Bible, or in the millennial kingdom with the Lord Christ. The spirits of those who will be resurrected to life in the spirit living ARE in Heaven, albeit perhaps the second Heaven not the third where is the Throne Room of God.
