From time to time, interest in the long-ago made prophecy of the end times by Roman Catholic Archbishop Malachy will flare up again, and people will write in and ask what we think about it. Well, there is no trustworthy prophecy outside of the Bible, it begins with Genesis 1 and ends with Revelation 22, and honestly that is that. That said, Malachy at the very least was astute in his consideration of the Roman system on many levels. Things he got right in his prophecy is that the Roman Catholic Church does indeed sit on 7 hills, and it will be destroyed at the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Biblically, that places us smack-dab in the middle of Revelation 17 and 18, and if so, Malachy correctly has identified the church as the Whore of Babylon. Well now, for a Catholic thats pretty good preaching, see for yourself:
And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her. Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come. Revelation 17:4-6, 18:9,10 (KJV)
Now that we have established that the part of Malachys prophecy that shows the destruction of the Roman Catholic Church lines up with actual prophecy in scripture, could Pope Francis be the last pope? In just 2019 alone, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, the real name of Pope Francis, has signed a covenant with Islam, is working to bring about a One World Religion, and has appointed 13 hand-picked cardinals to help him reach these goals in 2020. I would say that if Malachy were somehow able to look up from where he is right now, and see whats happening in Rome, he just might recognize whats going on.
And now that the United States left gov is aiming to go Global and a power to control our country.. ..
No one since the Apostle St. John has been more accurate than Orwell.
Pope Francis hasnt started doing miracles and calling down fire from Heaven in The presence of The Antichrist. Yet.
Not yet, but I imagine it’s just a matter of time.
The prophecy does not name him as the AntiChrist or the false Prophet either.
Bump
Bump
Malachy did not name or date the last Pope but did prophesy that the last one would be called Peter of Rome.
Oh, brother.
Malachi was hardly calling the Pope the whore of Babylon.
First, the famous Peter the Great ending was written in another hand, and probably post-dates the list of popes by many centuries.
Secondly, here’s what it says: “In extreme persecution, the seat of the Holy Roman Church will be occupied by Peter the Roman, who will feed the sheep through many tribulations, at the term of which the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the formidable Judge will judge his people. The End.” Feeding the flock sounds more like Jesus than the Whore of Babylon.
Thirdly, The Vatican is not one of the Seven Hills of Rome, but lies outside the ancient city (and even today lies separate). The Pope dwells in exile from the City on Seven Hills. But at least you’ve confirmed that Peter wrote his epistle from Rome.
Fourthly, since Peter the Roman occurs after at least a break, there’s no telling how many popes may exist between the Glory of the Olives and Peter the Roman.
Finally, who knows how many popes may exist between the Glory of the Olives and Peter the Roman.
If I were to believe in the authenticity of St Malachi’s prophecy INCLUDING the passage about Peter the Roman, and that Peter the Roman is the next pope after the Glory of the Olives, I would presume that Pope Francis was an illegitimate pope, as would be implied anyone after the Glory of the Olives must be.
Yet.
I like your analysis but I dont understand your last sentence, particularly in light of your prior observation about Peter the Roman being Christ like. Can you elaborate? Thanks
One would have to be a doofus to base one's thinking on Malarkey... err, Malachy, though.
For one thing, it was supposedly written in 1139 AD, but nobody had ever heard of it, seen it, written about it or even rumored its existence until 1590. It's not *impossible* that it was hidden away in an unknown archive for, oh, 400 years or so, but it does seem kinda dicey.
Better evidence that it's malarkey is that all the cryptic brief phrases which are supposed to identify the various popes, fit quite nicely and exactly like jigsaw puzzle pieces until, um, about 1590. THen it all gets incredibly convoluted. Which you would expect if all the ones until 1590 were written after the fact (some prophecy!) and the rest were sheer random guesses.
An example: some overheated thinky types thought it was clear that "Gloria olivae" (Glory of the olives") referred to Pope Benedict XVI because the Benedictines were sometimes called Olivetians.
First of all, the Benedictines are not as a group called "Olivetans." The Olivetans were a branch of Benedictine reformers, striving for a more austere and ascetical monastic practice. Even at their peak, many centuries ago, they never more than a small minority within the Benedictine Order, and by the 20th century they were much dwindled down to zero.
So that's a very slender connection to Olives.
Also, Benedict XVI is not, and never was, a member of the Benedictine Order. So the slender connection turns out to be no connection at all.
Secondly, there was all this Malachy-related brouhaha about Josef Ratzinger (BXVI) endorsing the reported Medjugorge mystical phenomena, and he rejected that firmly and said that supportive statements published hither and yon were "made up out of thin air."
So it's a fraud. You'd do better with chicken entrails or tea leaves.
I’m not sure where I lost you, but I want to emphasize that Pope Francis is NOT Peter the Roman, even if I were to believe all the nonsense about St Malachy. He’d be between The Glory of the Olives and Peter the Roman.
On the last sentence.
You believe that even if Malachy is correct, there are multiple pipes between olives and roman. check.
You also believe that Roman is Christ like.
But then you say
If I were to believe in the authenticity of St Malachis prophecy INCLUDING the passage about Peter the Roman, and that Peter the Roman is the next pope after the Glory of the Olives, I would presume that Pope Francis was an illegitimate pope, as would be implied anyone after the Glory of the Olives must be.
So if Roman comes after Olives he must be the antipope because anyone who comes after olives is the antipope.
So is a characteristic of the antipope that he is Christ like?
Agree wholeheartedly.
I can see many possible whores of Babylon. But if I had to guess I'd say it's Israel/the Hebrew people.
A) Many prophetic books in the Bible, albeit Old Testament, use the analogy of a cheating whore wife for how God feels about the Jews when they betray Him and worship something else.
B) I think us American Christians have an American or western bias in interpreting prophecies. Instead of assuming it's always about Europe or some western power, if we're to assume a prophecy is localized to any region at all we ought to assume a power in the Middle East. Even Patmos, the island the book of Revelation was written, is on the edge of modern day Turkey and about as close to Israel as it is to Rome. The same with us often using Old Testament prophetic books when interpreting Revelation (i.e. I like to look at the timeline in Daniel 12 when reading the one in Revelation 11.).
Thus, if I had to pick an interpretation of Revelation right now I'd lean towards the whore being Israel and the multi-headed beast being Islam, with his seven heads being the seven nations that came against Israel when Israel declared itself a nation (the Arab League). The "was and is not and is yet to come" description of the beast may be a description of how huge and powerful the Ottoman Empire was centuries after Revelation was written, then "is not" may be about it being virtually nothing after World War One (basically modern day Turkey), but sprang up again in 1948 as the Arab League fighting Israel to keep Israel from becoming an independent nation.
The Lamb of Christ being victorious in this context may be the Christian nations of the west (when we used to call ourselves Christian nations) winning World Wars One and Two and securing a place for Israel.
Verse 15 in Ch. 17 seems to change the scene with "Then the angel said to me, 'The waters which you saw,...' ". It may be that it changes the time frame and discusses centuries ago when many nations in that area became Muslim (surrendered to the beast) and made the middle east desolate (believe it or not the area where Israel is now used to have lots of life, then for a while was a desert, but now Israel is making it thrive again). And it may be that verse 18's statement that the woman is the "great city" is Jerusalem -- the city Muslims and Christians fought over a lot. Or it could be not a city but a nation -- the nation of Israel -- it is the most powerful nation in the area.
And Chapter 18's description of a fallen Babylon and all the merchants lamenting her destruction may be about the current nation of Israel being destroyed for being too secular and/or too against Christianity. The nations around Israel do an awful lot of business with it -- the loss of Israel would be horrible to the economies of the Middle East, though they hate Israel a lot.
Not saying I'm right on all these things. Just pointing out that we probably ought to have a middle eastern perspective of eschatology before we assume every prophecy is about Hitler or the 9/11 attacks.
Agree that the prophecies in revelation are Jerusalem and Israel centric...
Prior to the rebirth of the nation of Israel in 1948 the prophecies made no sense and out of this arose replacement theology. in this Europe, the Catholic Church, and even the United States were replaced and interpreted in lieu of the state of Israel not existing.
unfortunately, since the rebirth of the the nationstate of Israel this replacement theology has lingered and corrupted many hermeneutical interpretations.
In context, the book of Revelation needs to be Jerusalem and Israel centered.
Oh, thanks for clarifying.
I meant any popes BETWEEN the Glory of the Olives and Peter the Roman would be anti-popes. And even that is a mere logical necessity from the presumption that Peter the Roman is the next “real” pope after the Glory of the Olives. I don’t believe there’s any reason to presume that there are many, many unnamed popes.
