1 And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.
2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
6 Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.
Amen!
10 He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance.
11 He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners.
12 It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds.
13 Then a voice told him, Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.
14 Surely not, Lord! Peter replied. I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.
15 The voice spoke to him a second time, Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.
16 This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.
I guess I have trouble understanding what the unclean birds are all about.
This talks about the New Babylon, The harlot city of 69 AD Jerusalem that crucified the Lord and killed the prophets.
As Jesus prophesied, O Jerusalem was destr6as punishment for her sins. She, the harlot city that rode upon the beast ( the Roman empire) was ultimately devoured by that beast
Carrion-eating birds that eat dead flesh.
Chapter and verse please. Wouldn't Bear meat, crabs, fish, pigs etc. be a problem too?
Read the whole chapter. It lays out "clean" vs "unclean" animals.
Doesn’t Acts supersede Leviticus? Unless you are Jewish. Then Revelations is not part of your books.
The concept of an “unclean” bird comes from Leviticus (and Deuteronomy); there is where you will find it defined. Whether or not that definition has any bearing on the dietary habits of Christians is another matter. Acts does address that topic.
Can't be. For one reason that John wrote Revelation around 90 A.D. well AFTER the fall of Jerusalem. Secondly, we have the following prophecy concerning the same continued in the same chapter:
Last time I checked, Jerusalem is a thriving city.
Jerusalem had been invaded and destroyed, including the temple, brick by brick, by the Roman army by the time the apostle John received this vision from the Lord Jesus Christ on the Isle of Patmos, and he was over 90 years old at the time.
This prophecy does not speak of Jerusalem. It speaks of Rome, the “city built on 7 hills, and of the vatican, which means “hill of the soothsayer”.

Best Answer: Vatican- the word derives from the Latin vates, which means “tellers of the future” or “seer soothsayer”
Vaticanus makes allusion to the oracle:
Vaticanus was an Etruscan god of prophecy, and his temple was built on the ancient site of Vaticanum (Vatican Hill)

This is what the Lord thinks of soothsayers:
Micah 5: 12 And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers: 13 Thy graven images also will I cut off, and thy standing images out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt no more worship the work of thine hands. 14 And I will pluck up thy groves out of the midst of thee: so will I destroy thy cities. 15 And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen, such as they have not heard.
I realize that Revelations is filled with allegories. I was just wondering if anyone had insight into unclean birds in the New Testament after Acts. I know that the eagle is a symbol of the USA but are we Babylon? I would have believed Nazi Germany in the 40’s filled the bill with their actions and eagle. I try to update my understanding of the Word.
I had to look up ‘porphyrion.’ It led me to a mythological greek giant. Then I found a link that said it is another name for a swamphen. No, I didn’t know what a swamphen was either. So I looked that up.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swamphen
“The genus name Porphyrio is the Latin name for “swamphen”, meaning “purple”.
Another link said the Douay Rheims might be the only translation to give it that name.

Amen. Thanks for posting those verses.
This is referring to Jesus (Our Lord) as giving the command to preach the Gospel to the Gentiles so the Lord can claim a people among them for Himself (The Church).
Before that Jews were given priority for the Gospel - to an extent they still are (Romans 1:16).
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.”
Reference Acts 28:28
“Therefore be it known to you that this salvation of God has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will listen!”
Peter & Paul actually had a disagreement about this and Paul (Apostle to the Gentiles) put him in his place.
Sky & Ferris: Please feel free to jump in if I’m way off. That’s my read on the verses.
Preterist False Prophecy ping...
So I’m confused. Is Revelations addressed to the Jews or to the Church? Or both? If both, this verse according to your view wouldn’t apply to the Church.

Yep
Definitely NOT Jerusalem or Israel (original Babylon was a country/providence), so who could it be?
the unclean birds are, demonic spirits of various kinds. The demonic creatures are so weird they used the term birds.
Only demons will inhabit the country of babylon after it has been totally destroyed. This is the babylon that exists now, you know what country that is.
Good points & observations!
Church = Revelation Chapters 1-4
Jews and Trib Saints 4 and on.
Matthew 24 is similar. Jesus goes back & forth addressing the Church & then Jews.
I’m not an expert by any stretch of the imagination and if somebody reading this can offer tips, please do so, but as far as I know - The Church is totally gone after Revelation 4.
