Obviously, he doesn’t take the over 100 imminence statements literally—that biblical prophecy would be fulfilled SOON, AT HAND, BEFORE SOME IN THE FIRST CENTURY HAD DIED, IN THEIR GENERATION, etc.

The phrase "in their generation" (or "your generation") is not found in the bible.

Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.

The generation that Jesus speaks of “not passing” until He returns is a future generation, namely, the people living when the predicted events occur. The word "generation" refers to the people alive in the future when the events of Matthew 24–25 take place.

Jesus’ point in His statement, “this generation will not pass away until all these things take place,” is that the events of the end times will happen quickly. Once the signs of the end begin to be observed, the end is well on the way—the second coming and the judgment will occur within that last generation.

Sorry, but to me, the word “huckster” comes to mind. YMMV.

Revelation ch. 11 doesn’t mention Jerusalem at all. Yet it’s “clearly identified as Jerusalem” by 11:8?

Paul, the author of a large portion of the New Testament even uses the word dispensation, so your opening premise is agenda laden.

Don't take the mark when it is commanded to you. Just don't take the Mark.

BTW, the very assertion made in this screed post is fulfilling prophecy of how the end tiems unfold. Way to go, meathead.

And the Reformers (Luther, Calvin, Knox for example) never taught that there would be a 7 year tribulation etc.

Jesus said that it would happen it their generation, and they believed this. In the book of Revelation he told them these things would happen soon. Why is this so hard to accept????

Thanks for you reply about the dating of Revelation. You have cited ancient writers but most if not all of them were relying on a third hand ambiguous statement by Ireneaus from around AD 160-180. Not only can his statement have different interpretations, Irenaeus is known to have made other historical errors such as saying that Jesus lived to be about 50. A much earlier witness was Papias who said the John was martyred by the Jews, which would have to have been when they could have accomplished this—before AD 70 when they were in control before Jerusalem’s fall. I did not go in depth in this article about the dating of Revelation, but I have multiple articles at my site in section B, including “Revelation: It’s Central Theme Illuminated,” “Who is the Harlot Babylon of Revelation,” “Who Were the 144,000 of Revelation,” “When Was Revelation Written,” etc. Here is the link:

The Discourse in Luke is different from the Olivet Discourse. The Luke discourse was offered in the Temple, then Jesus and a few crossed over to the Mount of Olives where Jesus gave these inner circle members the Olivet Discourse in response to their pressing for more than what they heard in the Temple Discourse.

In the Temple Discourse, Jesus warned the people hearing Him that Jerusalem would soon be razed and to flee the city when Armies began camping all around. This was fulfilled when the Roman armies encircled the city but delayed their attack while their commander went back to Rome to participate in the Caesar succession. Then, after he was appointed Caesar He and his son attacked.

Jesus foretold that not one stone would remain upon another of the Temple his disciple saw gleaming in the sun as they crossed from the Temple to the Mount of Olives.

Semaj, Revelation 18:10 identifies Babylon as “the great city.” The first time “the great city” is mentioned in Revelation is 11:8, where she is clearly identified as “the city where the Lord was slain.” Pretty simple, actually.

Maybe Lindsey was a mormon...

In 1840 Joey Smith the guy who invented the religion of mormonism so called ‘prophesied” that end of the world would be in 80 years...1920 came and went...

I am confused.

If they believe in the rapture and that it would happen that way, then why are they concerned? Wouldn’t they expect that they would be going with the pilots?

Don’t mind the criticism. People don’t like being told they fall short on their duties. Back in the 70’s Hal’s books helped me to start to understand scripture and to not fear Satan, and to trust what God says. It took me another 20 years to understand the need to actually receive Christ. But God is so faithful, and then I really began understanding the Bible. Hal Lindsay was just part of God’s journey for me. And probably for many.
