A Catholic priest took to Twitter to ask women to dress modestly for church services to protect the purity of the men and people online are not having it.
Father Kevin M. Cusick, an ordained Catholic priest and veteran, wrote a tweet addressed to ladies, writing that a fellow priest was forced to ask a woman at a Catholic mass to cover her shoulders. Cusick went on ask women to please help the priest to protect the purity of men at holy Mass by choosing to dress modestly.
Cusick added, The alternative is awkward for all involved. Thank you.
Ladies, a priest I know was forced on Sunday to ask a woman at Mass to cover her shoulders. Please help the priest to protect the purity of the men at holy Mass by choosing to dress modestly. The alternative is awkward for all involved. Thank you. Fr. Kevin M. Cusick, LCDR (Ret.) ✝️ (@MCITLFrAphorism) June 3, 2019
The tweet faced almost immediate backlash, with both men and women arguing that women shouldnt have to cover up their bodies to protect the sensibilities of their male counterparts while attending a church service.
A woman's shoulders are not provocative. Women's bodies are not grenades, liable to explode at any moment, replied Australian novelist Jane Caro, adding that this is why she hates organized religion.

Or they dress like trash and forever wonder why all the guys who show interest are low life abusive jerks.
I agree.
No frock coats.
No powdered wigs.
Abominable.
I recall a cartoon of a woman telling a plastic surgeon “I want them big enough that I can tell men to stop staring at them”
“I was at the doctor the other day and observed female nurses and doctors dressed like they were going out to get a gallon of milk at 11PM.”
And they’re probably giving your care the same respect; time to consider changing doctors, Luke.
Yeah, stop wearing shorts, flip-flops, halter tops, etc. at Mass. Try to emulate African-Americans who dress so beautifully for their church services. I mean men and women aside from halter tops, of course.
The information professionals of the eighties revolted against formal clothing, gradually spreading the trend to the young. When the eighties were over and professionals began to return to suits and ties the Southern states with their sticky hot summers never went back.
Women likewise to a lesser extent.
Many people not only do not own a suit, they have never even worn one unless they rented one for a wedding.
If a guy cant control himself seeing some “shoulder” then he is a step away from sex offender status :)
This is so backwards I had to check twice to make sure a muzzie didnt say it.
Maybe the priest CAN’T TAKE seeing ANYTHING besides a woman’s face.
If that is the case, he went into the wrong business.
Miniskirts are a little over the top.
But when I was young I wore sleeveless shirts to church because YES, a church is a gathering place to worship AND as you get older, a place to meet a potential partner to share a common faith and love.
If that wasn’t mushy I don’t know what is! :)
here in the Philippines, we have a dress code posted in the back of church: No tank tops, no short shorts.
People are poor, so many just wear tee shirts and jeans (both men and women).
But some of the Protestant churches have a “dress/skirt and no pants” code.
nn one wears hats however, except for ladies church helpers who wear mantillas.
The Priest should discuss SIN, and what it gets you.
And then tell people what is SINFUL.
ie, go at it in the correct direction.
Interesting. In my limited experience, Catholic women (I married one) are trained to dress conservatively - especially at Mass.
Maybe not in Oz.
Furthermore, Muslim women have their ways to game the modesty customs too. I have seen some who cover their heads and hair, but are wearing skintight clothing, high heels and heavy make-up. Why bother with the head covering?
Yes, that's the truth. White folks could learn a lesson.
This is actually a level 1 trauma center and major academic hospital.
Shoulders?
At the request of his Bishop, Fr Cusick has deleted his Twitter account.
"What are you so aggravated about?"
"I spent over an hour putting on all of my make-up,
coordinating my pants and blouse and doing my hair.
And l had barely got out the front door when
some strange guy harassed me!"
"Wow. What did he do?"
"He noticed!"
I have a Catholic Church not far from my house that holds a Spanish-language mass on Sunday morning. If you drive by there when the mass is over, you wouldn’t believe the improper attire. My wife has said, “I wouldn’t wear that in public, let alone to church”! “Hoochy Mamas”, she called them!
It is a church service.
Obviously you don’t go to church in June, July, or August in Phoenix, AZ.
