Every Morman I have known has been a nice person. I remind myself that the Bible says that we will be known by our fruits and they seem to be producing good citizens.
On the other hand some of their beliefs strike me as really strange. Not my idea of a Christian religion at all.
False teaching is not good fruit. They maybe nice people but they are teaching a false message and leading people to hell.
Mormons are a Cult of Christianity. Unlike mainstream Christians they overlay their religion with a layer of extra beliefs such as the specific requirements of their cult such as abstentions from tobacco and alcohol, special underwear, a church hierarchy , etc etc. As a basic belief Mormons do believe in Christ and the normal Christian beliefs absent the Roman Catholic beliefs.
I’m not sure what ‘Christian’ really means anymore. There are so many different sects, many of which concentrate on different, specific points of dogma; and each thinks that their way of believing is the only ‘right’ way.
That’s the problem with dogma - it attempts to force everyone to think the same way; but God made us all different, with different viewpoints.
I’ve also known Mormon people of fine character; so I have to believe that the guiding ideals of their lives are generally positive, beneficial ones for them.
(Some religious posts on FR seem deliberately designed to stir-up trouble and contention...people often think they are doing this in honor of their ‘god’, when it’s really in honor of their own egos.)
“Every Morman I have known has been a nice person.”
I agree! They believe in Do Unto Others.. They’re OK in my book.
What few Mormons I ever knew were the kindest, ready to give somebody about anything they had, and good to work for.
Good citizens are probably not the kind of fruits that the writer had in mind.
