United Methodists edge toward breakup over LGBT policies
Associated Press ^ | April 20, 2019 | David Crary

There’s at least one area of agreement among conservative, centrist and liberal leaders in the United Methodist Church: America’s largest mainline Protestant denomination is on a path toward likely breakup over differences on same-sex marriage and ordination of LGBT pastors.

The differences have simmered for years, and came to a head in February at a conference in St. Louis where delegates voted 438-384 for a proposal called the Traditional Plan, which strengthens bans on LGBT-inclusive practices. A majority of U.S.-based delegates opposed that plan and favored LGBT-friendly options, but they were outvoted by U.S. conservatives teamed with most of the delegates from Methodist strongholds in Africa and the Philippines.

Many believe the vote will prompt an exodus from the church by liberal congregations that are already expressing their dissatisfaction over the move.

Some churches have raised rainbow flags in a show of LGBT solidarity. Some pastors have vowed to defy the strict rules and continue to allow gay weddings in Methodist churches. Churches are withholding dues payments to the main office in protest, and the UMC’s receipts were down 20 percent in March, according to financial reports posted online. …

You can be Christian or you can worship sodomy. You cannot do both.

Under the other option, opponents of the Traditional Plan would stay in the UMC and resist from within, insisting on LGBT-inclusive policies and eventually convincing the conservatives that they should be the faction that leaves under what’s envisioned as a financially smooth “gracious exit.”

“There’s a sense that some conservatives have been wanting to leave for a long time,” Hamilton said. “They’re tired of fighting about it.”

A good example of how homosexuals infiltrate and drive Christians out of their churches. They never do what Scripture clearly says, which is to simply expel these people from the church. You are not even supposed to eat with them.

United Methodist churches are creating their own god that tolerates and even celebrates sin.

A little bit of idolatry to go with their acceptance of sodomy.

Why can’t these mentally ill freaks just leave Christians alone. Why must 99.99% of the world be turned on its head over these freaks?

Probably going to get somebody’s shorts in a knot with this and it still does not change the facts: the UMC has long been on a downward spiral and this is only the latest iteration/issue. Women in the pulpit and other leadership roles was an earlier issue where the UMC has chosen to be un-Scriptural. The choice in the 60s to move from the local church being the primary emphasis in favor of becoming “United” with others with ecumenicism being the driving force. There are few in Methodism today who could tell you the story of the Wesley brothers and their fire for God.

I went to a few Methodist churches, back in the early 70s. I thought the ones I went to, were already apostate.

I don’t think God can be modified, but our interpretation can certainly ‘evolve’ into what is more useful at the time. And much easier to abandon when fads pass. Witchcraft had its day.

“I went to a few Methodist churches, back in the early 70s. I thought the ones I went to, were already apostate.”

No doubt - already given over to social justice as salvation and seeking common ground with other apostates through ecumenicism. I loved the small-town Methodist church I attended occasionally as a child in the early 60s. I had my aunt as a Sunday School teacher and her husband was obviously a respected church leader. That sweet memory is now lost to the mists of time and man’s reprobate nature that tarnishes every good work by lifting up man while denying God.

Not just the UMC, this blasphemy is spreading to every Christian sect. The worship of the Golden Calf today is now the Golden High Holy Anus and Sainted Rectal Prolapse.

For those who know what they’re doing and worshipping isn’t biblical, they are lost. For those who don’t know that this agenda is evil and leading them to hell, those are the ones who need rescuing.

There should be protestors out in front of every self-proclaimed Christian church that worships sodomy reminding/warning its members that this is demonic and that sin worship is against God.

Add to that, for all those that claim this is merely anti-homosexual, if ANY church decides that it’s “OK” to “live your own truth” and embraces sinful behavior, whatever it may be, it is categorically wrong.

To wit, we’ve got countless morbidly obese people in our country today (some due to pre-existing conditions, which is not their fault, and some due to gluttony). If the church decided to worship and support the gluttonous and that they should carry on with such behavior, nevermind that it (along with sodomy) carries with it serious health/hygiene risks along with shortened lifespans, this would be the same exact thing. We already have the culture pushing morbidly obese females as if that is “acceptable” and anyone speaking out against it is almost put in the same category as the so-called “homophobes.” It’s insane.

As a Southern Baptist youth, I went to a friend’s Methodist church occasionally and found little difference from mine. This was in the fifties, a decade that is getting more and more alien as it fades away.

"I don’t think God can be modified.

Many churches have done it. To some, god is now pro-homosexual, even allowing homosexual priests. To others, god cares more about advancing socialism in this world than he does saving the souls of sinners. To some he hates Jews. To some he hates white people. It's all about making god in your own image rather than the other way around.

I guess the United Methodist Church will be the Divided Methodist Church...I wonder if my ex’s church voted for the LBGT side...(I know they did, since they are very gay friendly. The Sunday School teacher was a lesbian...

I walked away from the Disciples of Christ after 19 years. We could coexist until leaders decided they must be in “the Resistance” to a duly elected president. It was only after I had decided to leave that a prominent member came out as TG.

Amazing that the THIRD WORLD is where we now have to go to maintain moral standards, but that is where we are, due to ‘tolerance’.
