I questioned this on another thread today. Notre Dame Cathedral had to have been officially consecrated as a Roman Catholic Church. It still offers Catholic services. Even the alter, and its religious artifacts, like the Crown of Thorns were probably consecrated as well. So in order for to it be used for any other purpose than a Catholic Church, it would have to be deconsecrated. It will be interesting to see how Rome would react to any plan to change it. However, I don’t have any faith in the current Pope to do the right thing.

Who is in charge of it. Rome or France?

Its literally a political monument. All cathedrals are. Those whose religion is politics might consider it so. The normal among us know better. And the world is not, thank God, run by associate professors from Toronto.

The flames that consumed the spire of Notre Dame and burned the 856-year-old church to its foundations... Weird stuff:

Macron should be asking Catholics if they want it ‘better’.

Its a waste of money to do so.
France is not fixing the fundamental problem.
None of europe is.

Since 1905 Notre Dame has been by the French Government. The Catholic Church runs it and pays the staff.

On a previous Notre Dame post I said;
They burned a church
They will rebuild a tourist attraction
It will have a Muslim connection

I hope not a “secular monument”
It was and is a cathedral and needs to stay that.

I thought the modern french people want a mosque.

If it going to be a secular monument, then just bulldoze it and leave the ruins as a monument to French secularism.

It looks like the old French republicans who executed King Louis and Marie will now get what they wanted back then. The destruction of Notre Dame and building a temple to REASON.
How’d that work out for them?
Probably be the same idiots who held up rebuilding the destroyed Twin Towers with all sorts of PC demands.

This article lost all credibility with me when I saw this in the opening sentence:
burned the 856-year-old church to its foundations
By the way, it has already been a "secular monument" once, in 1793.

Best to leave Notre Dame Cathedral as a ruin, much like the Greek Pantheons & Roman Coliseum.
That would respect the deep faith of the people who built it.
Not a multi-cult center as Macron wants. Why would anyone want to tour a secular building? Why would people want to make a pilgrimage to a mosque?

"We will rebuild the cathedral to be even more beautiful, Macron said.
But what shape will the cathedrals renovation take? Who will decide which alterations improve on the original?
The answer came earlier today, when Prime Minister Édouard Philippe announced an international competition for architects to submit proposals for a new spire that is adapted to the techniques and the challenges of our era.Farewell to eight hundred years of Christian art and history; farewell to Notre Dame Cathedral.
. . . a new spire that is adapted to the techniques and the challenges of our era.

"We will rebuild the cathedral to be even more beautiful," Macron said...
Not sure what Macron can mean by "more beautiful", unless he means rebuild it with an onion dome and minarets atop the towers?
