Notre Dame May Be Rebuilt as a Secular Monument
Intellectual Takeout ^ | 4/17/19 | Rev. Ben Johnson

The flames that consumed the spire of Notre Dame and burned the 856-year-old church to its foundations could have been doused by the tears of the faithful. If France heeds calls to rebuild the cathedral as a reflection of what modern “French people want,” the new structure may be flooded by their tears.

The fire, whose origins remain under investigation, was initially reported to have left little more than medieval stones, rose windows, and — make of this what you will — its golden altar cross untouched.

Donations nearing $1 billion have already poured in from around the world, without government compulsion. French President Emmanuel Macron pledged to rebuild the church within five years, a timeline as ambitious (and potentially, as unrealistic) as his plans for the eurozone.

“We will rebuild the cathedral to be even more beautiful,” Macron said...

Just wondering why demonic gargoyles would be placed on a “house of worship”?

They're drains for rain water, to keep it from running down the masonry. If we wanted to honor them, we wouldn't have dirty water spewing from their mouths. That they look demonic is intended as an insult to demons.

Who is in charge of it. Rome or France?

My understanding is that France owns it.

If it going to be a secular monument, then just bulldoze it and leave the ruins as a monument to French secularism.

It looks like the old French republicans who executed King Louis and Marie will now get what they wanted back then. The destruction of Notre Dame and building a temple to REASON.

How’d that work out for them?

Probably be the same idiots who held up rebuilding the destroyed Twin Towers with all sorts of PC demands.

That’s my understanding as well. The State owns all of the churches in France.

they are:
a) there to scare off evil spirits
b) there to represent the evil in the world that plagues those ‘outside the congregation’ (cast out of, or not part of the Church)

I doubt that.

5'll get you 10 that the architectural centerpiece will be a moslem "prayer" room.        and a depiction of mohhammadd buggering a boy will display under the main cathedral crucifix.

Notre Dame is a tourist attraction and a Catholic one at that. It will still be a Catholic Church.

“Notre Dame is government property which the government allows the church to use free of charge”

Interesting.

I wondered why the Vatican wasn’t going to rebuild it.

Doesn’t that strike one as superstitious?

I mean isn’t Jesus enough to ward off demonic presence?

Acts 17: 15-30 King James Version (KJV)
15 And they that conducted Paul brought him unto Athens: and receiving a commandment unto Silas and Timotheus for to come to him with all speed, they departed.

16 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.

17 Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.

18 Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection.

19 And they took him, and brought him unto Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine, whereof thou speakest, is?

20 For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean.

21 (For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.)

22 Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.

23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, To The Unknown God. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.

24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

25 Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.

30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

Doesn’t this relate to The Ten Commandments?

Exodus 20: 1-5 King James Version (KJV)

1 And God spake all these words, saying,

2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

Again Paul reaffirms the warnings against such idolotry:

Acts 19: 24-35 King James Version (KJV)

24 For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen;

25 Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth.

26 Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:

27 So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth.

28 And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

29 And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul’s companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre.

30 And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not.

31 And certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not adventure himself into the theatre.

32 Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused: and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together.

33 And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander beckoned with the hand, and would have made his defence unto the people.

34 But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

35 And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?

This article lost all credibility with me when I saw this in the opening sentence:

burned the 856-year-old church to its foundations

By the way, it has already been a "secular monument" once, in 1793.

How are the gargoyles of baal, moloch, baphomet and the phoenix, any different from tarot cards, psychic readers or ouija boards?
