Jesus’ TWO (not ONE) great commandments are IN ADDITION to the Ten Commandments, IIRC. This guy is an imbecile, and quite possibly a cult leader as well.

So he wants to set the bar even higher?

The Ten Commandments are good reminders for unbelievers.

We need to keep them up.

Matthew 7:15-20 New International Version (NIV)

15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.”

All I need to know.

Romans 8:1-4 (NASB)

1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.

3 For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh,

4 so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

"In a column published by Relevant Magazine, the North Point Community Church pastor argued that the Ten Commandments are “the old covenant” and no longer apply to believers."

Noting that accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior is key to salvation, Luke 18:18-25, particularly verse 20, shows that Jesus indicated that the commandments are still very important in a Christian’s life.

I have it from contemporary Jewish authority that there were originally 15 commandments.

Which one of the commandments does he want his neighbor to ignore, or his lawyer, or the man counting out his change at the various stores, etc.

Matthew chapters 5-7 are no less “Old Covenant” than the Ten Commandments. There is no redeeming blood there, and the New required the death of the Testator. All of our Lord’s earthly ministry to the Resurrection is directly cross-referenced to the Old Testament prophesy and still under the LAW of Moses.

Pretty shocking.

Andy Stanley is son of Charles Stanley, a Baptist minister in Atlanta area. I have occasionally come across his radio or TV programs and he was solid Bible fundamentalist.

I am fairly certain Andy’s dad would not agree with his theology.

Guess in this case, the apple fell pretty far from the tree—and it rolled a fair distance too :(

Andy Stanley is profoundly wrong.

The Ten Commandments

  1. Show us God's pure character
  2. Shows us what we can do to please God (by behaving like Him
  3. Shows us we do not have the ability to obey God and we need help.

This is another attempt to replace the Commandments with social justice decrees.

The earth takes precedence over human life, but man's laws are ascendant over any so-called deity who cannot be proven to exist. We are close now.

He doesn't know how to dress to show self-acceptance and respect for the Lord His Maker as well as his audience, about Whom he pretends to be a God-appointed messenger.

Bunch of credulous Bible-slackers paying for his meals. He should get some real work, not slide in nder his father's halo effect.

Jesus upheld the Old Testament Commandments: “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill” (Matthew 5:17).
