Francis downplays Wuerl's culpability for sins
Pope Francis is saying that Cdl. Donald Wuerl's actions in protecting predator priests — actions that destroyed the spiritual lives of many and the physical lives of some — were justified as simply "mistakes" made in good faith.
In his letter accepting the resignation of Wuerl as archbishop of Washington, D.C., Francis said in a letter Friday, "You have sufficient elements to 'justify' your actions and distinguish between what it means to cover up crimes or not to deal with problems, and to commit some mistakes."
These "mistakes" were in actuality crimes, and Wuerl's name was mentioned 169 times in the Pennsylvania grand jury report published in August. These "mistakes" led to at least two suicides committed by young men sexually abused by a priest under Wuerl when he was bishop of Pittsburgh, and the loss of innocence for scores of minors sexually exploited by priests under Wuerl, as well as the loss of faith of countless people shepherded by members of the homosexual network allowed to thrive under Wuerl.
When Pope Francis says Wuerl can "justify" these moral crimes, which he then writes off as mere "mistakes," he's not aiding Wuerl to make the acts of contrition that are necessary for Wuerl to confess and be absolved from these sins of his. By seemingly downplaying the gravity of these sins and Wuerl's moral culpability for them, he is thereby participating in these sins.

God's Word is abundantly clear; you don't need the roman catholic church in order to be saved; you need to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ alone, nothing more:
"And THERE IS SALVATION IN NO ONE ELSE, for there is NO OTHER NAME under heaven that has been given among men BY WHICH WE MUST BE SAVED." (Acts 4:12 emphasis added)
All you need is Jesus, nothing more; not the roman catholic church, not religion, not the useless "traditions of men", not your own self righteous or "good works", which are viewed as nothing more than "filthy rags" in God's Holy sight and can never justify or save any of us (read Isaiah 64:6; Romans 3:4; Ephesians 2: 8-9).
Jesus alone died once and for all time on the cross of Calvary for you in order to pay the penalty for all of your sin (not the rc "church", not the so-called "pope", not any of their so-called "priests"). Jesus alone paid the price, He alone arose from the dead in triumph over death and the grave, He alone arose into heaven where He sits in glory at the right hand of the Father where He acts as the one mediator between Gon and man, He alone acts as our Great High Priest, ever interceding before Almighty God on our behalf.
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, accept and receive Him into your heart as your personal Savior and trust in Him alone for the salvation of your soul.
Once you have done this, Jesus says you have been "born again" (John 3:1-15), you have become a child of God,(John 1:12) you have been adopted into God's family (Ephesians 1:5) and have entered into an eternal, personal relationship with Almighty God. *Note: Biblical Christianity isn't a "religion", like roman catholicism, it is a PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD.
After you have accepted Christ, find yourself a solid evangelical church where the Word of God is faithfully preached, AND OBEYED, and where the Lord Jesus Christ is consistently glorified, honored and lifted up as the Savior and only way to obtaining eternal life and heaven, by grace alone through faith in Christ alone.
All anyone needs is The Lord Jesus Christ.
I think there’s a lot of truth in that. I’ve thought for some time that Obama may have been the best thing to happen to conservatism for a long time. It made the average/moderates realize that liberalism equals socialism/communism. It may do the same thing with the church. I go to two churches, one is the one my in laws go to in a heavily Italian area, the other is close to my home, both are more full than they were before this crisis came up.
Think about the apostles. There was only one as far as I know that showed up for the crucifixion, Peter denied even knowing him, another one was the betrayer who facilitated his death. These were ones that saw the miracles in person, walked with him, and heard his teachings first hand! Sometimes it makes us not look so bad.
This is just giving the Evil One a victory. You were warned in Scripture that a time would come when the wolves get into the sheepfold, devouring the lambs and scattering the flock. And what did this Prophecy tell you to do? Stand firm.

You are Confirmed: you have your own share in Christ's role as Prophet, Priest and King. You are a grown-up Catholic, and that means you are now one of the responsible ones.
For Christ's sake, and for the sake of the flock, you do not run.
